Always start with the ignition. Everyone jumps right away to the fuel system, but playing the odds, it's always better to check out the entire ignition system first. Did you pull & read any plugs yet?

Sounds like a you have a problem with your floats. What kind of carb is it? When was the last rebuild on it done?

If if stumbles or dies making a left hand turn it could point to the float levels being too high.

I am not sure how the Holly's floats are set up, but I think what might be happing here (going on how Edelbrock's floats and float bowls are set up)l is that your floats are set too high; to the point were it is letting in just enough fuel for the car to run. What I think is that when he slams on the brakes, all the fuel in the bowls flys forward and up against the wall. Now, since all the fuel has been momentarily pushed forward, I see either the primary metering jets getting un-cover (your floats being set too high causes a low level of fuel in the bowl, if you had the normal level then there would be more fuel in the bowl which would still cover the jets, ever when the fuel flys forward), which means your engine would loss fuel until the primary metering jets get covered again; that the fuel flying forward and up against the bowl wall causes the float to rise, closing the needle and seat, stopping fuel from being allowed in; or both. I don't know if this is what is really happing, but this is just my guess. If I were you, I would re-adjust the floats and see if that solves it.

You don't give much information to work with. Year, Engine, Tranny, would be helpful...

Generally... I'd say make sure your plugs, wires, points (if you got 'em) are good and set properly... Check the timing and finally.. depending on your engine you might be over-carbureted. Unless you have a really hot small block, a 750 cfm carb is too much.

Never though of that. If it is the gas, then it would be a totaly different problem. If it is, then I sounds like your accelerator pump is spraying too much gas.

I agree, that carb may be way too big for his engine.
