Car feels kind of loose

Hey I just bought an 89 not too long ago. It drives fairly well for a 15 yr. old car, but I wish it felt a little more tight. The car is dropped with Eibach sportlines I believe. (prev. owner did it) It rides horrible. Does this sound like symptoms of worn shocks and struts? Can I replace struts in the driveway? I drive a regular cab ranger as a daily driver so I know what a rough ride is, but my stang rides worse. Also, the steering feels a little loose. I feel safe in the car, it may just be an effect of the worn out suspension. Also, on the Fox chassis, do subframe connectors and shock tower braces make a difference? I am in early stages of redoing my car and money is coming in but its just hard for me to save up while going to college.

My plan is: rebuild motor (in progress), rims and tires (if you saw how ugly they were you know why its a high priority), and paint. Then I want to work on suspension and interior.

Some new shocks and springs will work wonders. Subframe connectors are a good idea as well, but it's mostly for the turning aspect.

Knowing the fox body, your interior shakes and rattles like crazy. You might want to take it apart piece by piece and re tighten it. Some 3m tape and tough gel type adhesive will be of help.

Thanks for the reply, I was thinking of doing that too. I really want to get the motor right first as my main concern and then work my way through all of it. I think you are definitley right about going through and tightening it up though.

you are not the first to notice a brutal ride with lowering springs.

as for the rest, you gotta get under and check it out (steering, etc). not much we can do for ya.

Full length sub frame connectors first of all, then you can work towards replacing the stock flimsy rubber bushings with stiffer urethane pieces.

Subframe connectors welded in should be the first thing, then shocks and struts. Changing out the rear upper and rear lower controll arms with aftermarket units will also make a world of difference. I gaurantee after subframes, shocks/struts, and controll arms it will be like a different car.
