i know the 96-98 gt's are the slowest of the bunch, but i think mine feels even more sluggish. mines an auto and the only mods i have are a k&n fipk, bassani x and catback. reason im saying this is my friend got wasted last nite and i had to drive his maxima. its a 99 gle with a 190 hp 3 liter v6. i was suprised at how much faster it took off and accelerated. my gt does not take off nearly as fast. i keep up with all the maintenance on my car pretty good. the only thing i havent fixed yet is the idle. its really bad when im at a stoplight and even worse with the ac on. is there something i might need to check to remedy this? i dont remember my car being so slow when i bought it.

Don't worry...I feel the same way. My stang is really slow off the line (sad for what is supposedly a muscle car), and alot of the newer cars are getting quicker. That's why I'm contemplating getting a roots or twin screw blower. What you need to do is get some gears.

What is the gear ratio in the Maxima? I bet it is numerically much higher than what is in your car. Gears can allow the car to get into the power band a lot quicker and make the car appear much quicker.

Yeah, It is probably the way it is geared. A lot of front
wheel drive 4 and 6 cylinders are geared lower, higher numerically.
My '91 Cutlass ciera with the 3300 series engine would peel
the tires from a dead stop sometimes (but then it would lose
steam pretty quickly after that). My mom's old grand am v-6
I believe had a 3.73 ratio in it and it seemed to take off fairly
quickly as well. Just get a gear and you should be fine. Nothing lower than
a 4.10 for the 4.6 liter In my opinion. Anything lower is a waste for the 4.6 L.

My OLD's Achieva SCX W41 ran a limited slip with 3.94 gears. Add a 200Hp Quad 4 to the mix and it could eat early 4.6's for dinner. My Cavalier pulls 2.4 60ft time but dies after that.

It really depends on how much money you want to spend. Get you some LT headers and some 4.10's, that will wake her up. If you have more money to spend, get some PI heads and a blower

The 96-98 autos came with 2.73's. Gears make a huge difference. They also feel like crap when you have the overdrive on around town. The thing feels like its gonna just quit running at any second. I keep the OD off around town and when I wanna play I manually upshift it (never downshift) even though some dont reccomend this. The biggest problem is the final drive with stock gears in 4th(OD) it sucks real bad!!!! I am actually contemplating on trading in my stang for a manual but I like it too much most of the time..It would be my only option since it costs too much for a conversion.

This might sound pretty dumb...I never understood why OD is there anyway. Please fill me in.
