Car Idles Better With Spout Out...why?

I've recently been tackling a few idle and rough running probs, I put in a new fuel pump and that fixed it. Anyways, my car tries to idle real high (800-1000) and I tried the mechanical idle sequence, but it just doesn't like to idle at 600-650. Anyways, when I took the spout out, it cleaned up and idled smoothly, it still stumbled every now and then, but it was smooth. What do I need to do, leave the spout out?

Do you have any codes?

What SPOUT out timing does it idle well at? I have a 94GT with AODE and i ran it locked out at 24* for awhile - i thought it ran better that way. I have since gone back to running 8* base timing, but with computer control of the timing (I was not wild about not having timing pulled during shifts).

As wisely said by Rootus, really check out the balancer - otherwise your frame of reference is skewed.

Good luck.
