AKRON,OHIO
you guys know the problems ive had with this car.we finally got it running and i t idle fine in the driveway with no problems.let it run with cheap oil in it,drained that and put the good stuff in.had to fix some coolant leaks.the car idles rough like its got a cam in it prolly just needs tuned to fix that.so i took it out last night to see how it was going to run,it was running fine.stopped to get something to drink, car died.smoke coming from under the hood,i think that is just burning stuff of the headers and stuff,i hope thats what it is.the car was not running hot or anything, but i had to let it sit for about 20 minutes before it would start again.it was acting like it was flooded.i finally get it started and im driving it home but at every light i had to push the clutch in and keep reving the car so it would not stall.its like it loading up on fuel.i dont understand why it idled fine in the drive, and then i cant drive it.any ideas where to start.oh yeah fuel pressure is at 32 with vac on. :fuss: :bang:

is there no way to fix this problem w/o getting a tune?i tried backing off the fuel pressure and it still does it.if i cant drive the car to get it tuned, how am i supposed to get it done?it only does it when it is hot.i gotta drive it about a 1/2 hour to get it tuned so it has to be able to run good enough for that?there has got to be something i can do?

Yep, a tune should fix those problems. I am fighting the same battle you are right now. Although mine doesn't want to die at the lights, it still loads up on fuel a LOT. That dreaded idle surge is a killer when I first start it up. I gotta hold it at 1700 or so for about 20 seconds before I can safely let off. You might wanna check to see what that smoke is. I accidentally melted some plastic loom onto my passenger side header, and it smoked white. One time when I was driving I saw white smoke coming out from under the car, thought it was the loom burning off. Nope, it was a head gasket. Check it out to be safe. FWIW, a twEECer will come to you if you can't make a trip to the dyno. :) Mine should be in today I hope.

the smoking is gone and when the car is cold it starts and idles fine.its just after i drive for about ten minutes that it wont idle or its hard starting back up.thats when i got to hold my foot on the gas is when its hot.im gonna take my module and have it tested.i wonder if its my ingnition box getting hot?or maybe cuz i couldnt get that stupid afm power pipe hooked up and the filter is just under the hood suckin all that hot air?maybe my computer is messin with it cuz its suckin in hot air,but it didnt do that before.how much is a tweecer?and where can i get one?

Having the filter in the engine bay won't matter. My Pro-M is sitting in the engine bay connected to the stock boot because I hate the power pipe. New, a twEECer is $380 for the base model, or $550 for the RT. You WILL want to get teh RT. But look around in the classifieds, I just got my RT in, and I only paid $425 shipped. I'm not familiar with ignition boxes, I still run the stock ignition (with MSD coil, cap/rotor).

Flooring the gas pedal while (AND ONLY WHILE) cranking kills the injector pulse - this is often done with untuned cars with fat injectors. Might be worth trying.

I might note that fan wash can mess with some underhood filter set-ups. I dont have experience with that phenomenon - just what I have read (and read some theory behind why it happens).

Good luck.

i think i have found my problem.i was messin with the car last night i wanted to see were the iac screw was set at,if it was at the 1 1/2 to 2 turns its supposed to be at,and it was completely closed.so i unplugged the iac,set the screw to 1 1/2 turns.i havent had the chance to drive it yet to see if it helped or not cuz i had to take off the water neck.i have a leak on the bypass hose that i couldnt get to stop.i have a chrome ford racing one and the hose wont seal on it.so now i have to buy another one to see if that fixes my leak.hopefully i have figured out my problem
