Ok.. This just happened out of nowhere.. I got up for work an was getting ready to leave.. started my car as I started it.. I heard a pop like lose connection sound and the car wouldnt start..

I checked the solenoid wire .. no corrison checked the power wires.. no cracks no corrison..

When I hold the key down the fuel pump continually starts up// an if I hold it down long enough I hear a metal sound every few seconds.. An it sounds like its coming rom underneath my car.. I am unaware if it may be a bad starter.. It just stopped!

Please if anyone could give me an idea what it could be and how to fix it that would be great.. I cant afford to miss work anymore because of this POS mustang

Go over all of your connections again, just to be on the safe side. It could very well be a bad starter. Is your car manual, and if so, will it push start? If the starter's bad, you can sometimes free them up by giving them a few bangs with a BFH.

I can try to push start it.. I was just out there and held the key down when the fuel pump starts is when I hear a CLICK sound then it starts but only every so many turns does it happen

it doesnt start anymore.. it just when the key is in the start position an held the fuel pump turns on again.. even though its already engaged.. an possible a kinda loud clunk sound an then the fuel pump starts over again and thats it.. just quiet..

The fuel pump should prime everytime you turn on the key to build fuel pressure, so that part makes sense. I'd guess as long as you have a sufficient charge and you get the click from the solenoid, the starter is toast, given all of your electrical connections are in good shape.

its not clicking anymore all I hear is.. the relay clicking and the module in front of the radiator..

I had the car started for almost 3 minutes.. it seemed to be running very very very poorly like on half the cylinders and when i gave it some gas it died..

When I tried to crank it over car would start and stop fast.

Now the starter is not doing naything nor solenoid

I'd charge the battery up. Turn the engine over by hand a few times to see if you hear anything unusual.

Did you check the PDC connection?

If you find it push-starts still (and runs ok), as Matt said, the bendix is suspect, as is the ring gear on your flywheel.

Good luck.

I will try to push start it again when the car started.. it did not stay running it stalled when I gave it some gas.. then it wouldnt stay running when i kept trying to tstart it then the starter stopped... the flywheel - gear and everything is new

Did you check the PDC connection?

PDC is??? While I'm tempted to use acronyms myself, I tend not to, as I believe many readers don't understand what the letters stand for. Now, when you tell me what PDC stands for I'll say to myself, damn, another seniors moment, just like I did when you told us what "Zerked" meant in another thread. Getting old isn't easy.

PDC = Power distribution Center. I like the idea of not using acronyms but I tend to just brainstorm (in my own terms) while typing. My bad.

The PDC power connection (under a plastic cover on the side of the underhood fusebox) is arguably the most important connection on the car. There's a nut holding the cables down and the terminals tend to corrode. I clean mine once a year or so. Because this connection merges the battery, alt and underhood and interior power, if it goes funky, all bets are off.

Bendix is the drive gear on a starter motor. It meshes with the flywheel's ring gear, causing the flywheel (ergo engine) to turn over.

If the bendix doesnt mesh with the ring-gear precisely, the starter wont work properly or will work intermittantly.

Thanks again for the help bro I will see what I can do tomorrow.. an get this thing working again an sell it for good.. I hate 4.6 stangs but got my eye set on a Saleen 03 with a nice little power adder =) plus I always wanted a convertable haha

Well heres what happened so far the car turns over now thats it.. will not start it seems to start for less then 2 sec's then off.. It was fine prior to all of this... seems like this car is the problem
