Car keeps trying to start *on its own*

So ive been having some trouble witht my mustang, the battery kept on dying on me. I would jump it and it would start, this time i tried jumping it and it wouldnt crank, just give a loud "clanking" kind out sound. I reoved the battery and cleaned it, now when I put the battery back in, the car keeps cranking on its own! key out too.. help please! lol

sounds like either your starter or your solenoid is bad. probably the solenoid

+1 on the solenoid. that's how I crank my car when i am working on it. if it's stuck open then the car will crank by itself.

Yeah it is your solenoid, which is a relatively cheap and easy fix.

Yeah I agree with strype, it has a bug in the system.

Yeah the solenoid on the inner fender next to the coil.

Man, joining this forum was the best thing I could have done for my Mustang, lol. I replaced the solenoid and its working great. Thanks to all!

lol, i had the very same issue last week...it wasn't my solenoid it was my relay. my relay was stuck in the on position. 12 dollar fix.

Well, you beat me.. That solenoid was a $20 fix, lol.

I remember the first time that happened to me... I just sat and watched in amazement. It was like starting and starting and starting and I just stared like "WTF?" Then it hit me- PULL THE BATTERY STUPID!!!
