If you have 1 key already, call around to your local key cutting places. there is a couple of them where I live that have the units to program the chip in the key. I paid 60 bucks, instead of the 125 the dealer quoted me.

It won't be as simple as a $5 recut or anything. Car wouldn't crank if you went that route.

OK MY experience is, i bought a spare key from fred myers (just a quick copy $5 or w.e) and my car will start, but then just die. So yes it will crank and will open the doors but the car wont stay on...

Now i went back to ford and i did have a real copy of my key, and they made a copy with the chip for 50-60bucks.

Now if you dont have a key period, then.... but keep looking and dont pay that $125bucks or whatever!! but 60 or so.. yea thats about right.....

Ford can make you a key real cheap that will just unlock your door but if you want a key to actually start the car then yes its pretty salty. When I bought my car it only came with one key and fob and I had the place I bought the car from buy me another set and it was $115 for the key and I just had them reprogram the fob from my old car (02 Mustang V6).

If you got no key tho, you'll never get it for much cheaper than $100.

Because your PATS system needs to be programmed to work with a brand new key, so in this case, is not a matter of "coding the key", it's a matter of "coding the car".

If you have TWO keys, you can make a 3rd by yourself. It's right in the manual

Search Ebay. Sometimes the Ford chipped keys come around pretty cheap. Then get it cut and program it according to the manual.

Same goes for programming new remotrs...all in the manual.

The good folks at Lasota Racing Technologies programmed my XCAL2 to bypass the PATS system. Car will start with just a plain old key now.

So if you have an XCAL you can just pay for a single tune and Don will email it to you for a single tune charge. Then you will NEVER have to worry about it again!!!

The only draw back is that the theft light blinks for a about the 1st 10 minutes you drive the car. Easy fix for that this just to disable the bulb.

$35 per cut blank and then whatever 1 hour shop rate is. You can get up to four keys reprogrammed in 1 hour.

wiring a kill switch to the inertia switch in the trunk and hiding the wire real good would be 10x more effective than the pats system. if hes going to attempt to steal your car im sure he knows what hes doing anyway.
