Car starts if selinoid crossed, but not other wise??

I have had this problem with my car not starting. i have jumped the selinoid, and the car starts---cool. but, when i just try to start it normally, car wont start. no clicking, no trying, nothing. There is 12 volts at the selinoid, battery and what not, but it wont even try. does that mean there is a problem with the ignition switch???
any ideas??

is the back of the silonoid grounded? that was my problem. there is no groung wire, the back just needs to be placed on a good ground!

I'd replace to solenoid. Chances are if it starts w/ it crossed it's bad.

i just added a new selinoid. it worked jumped with the old selinoid and the new one.
I think that i have it grounded properly too.

1.) Pull the small push on connector (red wire) off the starter relay (Looks like it is stuck on a screw) and jump it to the terminal that is connected to the battery. If it starts, the relay is good and your problem is in the rest of the circuit.

2.) Remember to check the ignition switch, neutral safety switch on auto trans and the clutch safety switch on manual trans cars. If they are good, then the relay is bad.
