car still running even when keys are out please help!

after running car for 10 min. the engine keeps running. when it finally stops gas shoots up from the carburator.

As in, running on, or as in will not turn off with the key? What work have you done recently or what has been changed?

did you try giving it a hard romp right before turning the key off? That might choke it out. Or, turn the car off while in gear ie.. drive with your foot on the brake.

Sounds like it's running-on. That's almost always an ignition timing issue. Letting it run on like that for 10 minutes is very bad for the engine. Better off stalling it by leaving it in gear with the brake on (if a standard) or killing it in Drive if an automatic.

The gas out of the carb thing makes me think that it's overfueling at idle.

Adjust your idle mixture and see if that helps.

OH.. and the technical term for it is "dieseling".

I still don't understand how it could be a timing issue. With the key off, there is no spark...who cares what the timing is set to if there's no spark anyway.

There is a way for the engine to fire even with the ignition off. You might get a trusty multi meter out and check and see if there is power at the coil after the ignition key is turned off. Hopfully it is not a wiring issue but it won't hurt to check.
