Sounds almost like a supercharger whine.

This has been going on for a few months and now that I have money to fix it I would like to narrow it down with your help!

She whines when I let off the gas while "IN" gear, she doesn't whine while I have my foot on the peddle, even if only at 1000rpm.

She does however whine out of gear but much much quieter.

Could this be my rear end needing to be rebuilt? (if so what should I replace?)

Could this be my tranny?

Could this be my drive-shaft/u-joints/etc?

any help is appreciated. I have replaced the rear-end fluid, its full.

Hi,

Does it whine only while driving?
or
When staitionary at idle?

It could be your TOB when in or out of gear would be able to hear it while staitionary and moving. Good way to tell is if the sound gets quieter when you put your foot on the clutch.

If it whines while driving it could be your rearend gears or a wheel bearing even.

good luck

I was going to say gears but I don't know.

If it only whines while moving then it could be gears but if not then Im stumped.

Does it whine through the whole RPM range or jus certain spots?

I think I know what your exact problem is, I have the same whine but I have the AODE, its the bearings in the rearend, they are extremely worn out, Im going to replace mine when i get frpp gears.

If its whining stationary (not moving) then thats a whole different problem.

thanks for the help guys,

The car only whines while driving. The sound doesn't dampen if the clutch is engaged.

The whine is not present while moving up through the RPM's only when coming off the RPM's does it whine.

I just bought a set of 4:10's last night so while im pulling her apart I will also replace the bearings

Thanks.
