I've had this problem for about 3 months now and it's really unpredictable. My 89 will start almost every time, but there are times like last night when my car won't start. I was trying to turn it over, and I kept thinking something wasn't right, until I realized that the fuel pump wasn't turning on. This has happened to me about 4 or 5 times before and I never understood why. Everytime I keep trying to crank it, it does eventually turn over. Last night, my friend and I decided to tried some starter spray in the throttle body, it started right up and ran fine. I even killed the engine and tried starting it back up and the fuel pump engaged and it turned over fine. It never happens while I'm driving, just when I'm trying to start the engine. So, my question is, what is going on? I think it might have something to do with the eec not providing a ground to the fuel pump relay, but I don't know where to start looking for problems since this doesn't happen all the time and it's a rare occurance. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Chase
