Yesterday my car was running and starting fine, then I went to start it and nothing. CAA came to tow me home, and we got it started by tapping the starter solenoid as I tried to crank it over. I tried tapping it earlier, but I guess it did no good as the motor wasnt trying to turn over. Anyways, back to today. The car wouldnt start again, after starting fine several times since the CAA incident. I managed to get it home by push starting it, and I replaced the starter solenoid, but still nothing. When I try to start it, something makes a clicking sound, and for some reason my stereo gets no power, but thats probably just a fuse. Is there a way to check if my starter is fubar? Thanks.

it sounds like the battery or cables are kaputt. do you lose your presets when you try to crank it (or do the interior lights go out)?

if no to those questions, put a test light on the solenoid trigger (wire that pulls off) and see if you have 12 volts while cranking. if you do (assuming a full battery, cables alright, etc, see below).

you can also jump the solenoid (across the big lugs). if it starts this way, but the test light did not light above, that suggests the solenoid.

however, first blush guess would be a cranking/conductivity issue (battery, cables, etc). dont forget grounds. good luck.
