It's a tall air filter because I wanted it to reach my hood scoop. So when the hood is closed you can see the air filter from the scoop :D

Thanks man... well as far as power goes... Only God knows until I get a dyno pull or, with less accuracy, go to the strip club er drag strip.

Anyway the engine is being taken out of the car lol I scratched my firewall with the ONE MANNED ATTEMPTED AT INSTALLING A TRANSMISSION WITH ONLY A CHEAP JACK. So I want to sand and repaint the engine bay, it will also permit me to paint the engine properly too because it was raining and I was in a hurry when I threw the 302 in the car.

Besides taking the engine out, putting transmission in, and putting engine back in is the only way I can put the tranny in. If that made sense? I was going to bring the car to a garage to have the transmission installed but bah... cheaper my way :)

I have access to a rented chevre but I'm scared to put the engine and tranny in at the same time though. I'd need to have that thing (whatever it's called) that would allow me to incline the engine at any angle.

I wasted the entire Saturday trying to upload the transmission when removing the engine and starting over would take only 2 hours. DOH! I could have worked instead :nonono:

Hey, what size filter did you use for that?

I was thinking of doing something along the same lines with my scoop. I also wanted to rig something up so I could close the scoop and keep rain and what not out though.

It's a 13.5" x 4" air filter at Canadian pif paf for a whooping $8.99 lol

To make a perfect "cold air" setup, you'd need to make a heat shield under the air filter so it can only suck in cold air from the scoop. This can be made out of fiberglass or you can make it out of a sheet of aluminum. It would sort of look like a box with the top open and should fit snug with the hood when it's shut.

As for water, the only problem I see right now is that the scoop isn't sealed so water may drain into the engine bay. I will seal the scoop with some weather stripping or something and for the front, I will make a small lip so it will act like a gutter. When driving well... I don't know. I could keep the plastic piece in the car and rig something up so I can put it back in or what would be real cool is make a butterfly opening with some sheet metal and an old choke vacuum from an 80's carb.

I did something simular with my Firebird that had the trans-am shaker, I cut open the scoop and made my own butterfly (or flap) and it opened using a vacuum which was pretty cool. I bet you can use an old style light switch to control the vacuum or simply put a valve under the dash or something :D

I've got few questions for you Steve ..

First, how much the 302 project cost you until now?
Secondo, is this legal?
If one day I want to do the same thing than you.. I will probably need help.. so.. I'm wondering if anybody want to help me in this projet?
And finaly, what is better between a turbo and a 302?

thx!

Yeah you can turbocharge a V8. Even a carb'd v8 can have a turbo or supercharger :D

I don't know how much, let's see... I spent about $2500 thus far and I'm far from done :( But I did get a 351W in there also and some EFI parts I won't be using.

Is it legal? yes it is, I called the SAAQ and insurance, I am putting on the 4 cats and air pump. There is no EGR and it isn't EFI but I'm not worried about that.

I'm going to make a write up with photos and whatnot for those wanting to do the same. :) I can't say I'll go over to help you because I have no clue when you are going to start this and where it will be done :)

If you're thinking 2.3 turbo vs. 302... I say 302 but it's an opinion only, the 2.3 turbo is pretty damn kick ass so it's up to you. It is easier to do a turbo swap.

nice sort off... it will have good heads but it will still be a 36 year old engine! It will need a rebuild for sure... Lots of good and cheap later year 302's on the market :)
