carbed turbo

will a carbed turbo setup work on a n/a block? i know the f/i system wont work, but was just wondering if this would. because i can get the whole setup real cheap and would love to put it on and go, but its probally not that simple nothing ever is.

You need forged pistons or else keep the boost low. You also need to make a turbo oil return line fitting into the bottom side of block or top side of oilpan. You can get a tee fitting where the oil pressure sensor is located and run a line off of that to the turbo.

Also make sure the vacuum canister is on the boost control actuator and the carb turbo motors distributor is included.

Carb is a stock Holley 5200 so its not a biggie if you dont get that.

If you get the carb turbo it is important to get the exhaust transfer tube that runs off the exhaust manifold, under the engine and to the drivers side mounted turbo. This of course will also require some rerouting of your exhaust system as well.

thanks, i think im just gona go with a whole turbo block, will putting a 4 barrel on there do anything power wise or will it hurt performance?

You can use a EFI turbo shortblock with the carb turbo head but how are you planning on hooking up a 4bbl carb?

You can also run more boost since the later turbo engines used dished pistons.

Are you keeping this as a turbo or talking about making this a high performance carb engine?

The best N/A setup is the square pattern EFI lower intake with a spacer from Racer Walsh and a Holley 2300 2bbl carb mounted on that.

i would have to get a for barrel intake, or get an adapter, but i think im just gona get it and keep it stock except for a roller cam and some port work, should give me some decent power.

If you use a turbo motor short block it should have forged pistons and the carb turbo has flat top pistons so it will have higher compression.

As I mentioned above your best performance will be using the later EFI square bore lower intake and use the Racer Walsh 2bbl adapter. The lower EFI intake flows better than any non race specific intake.

If your determined to run a 4bbl you might be able to still find a Offenhauser 4bbl intake but the EFI lower/2bbl setup will still outflow it.

Also you might check around to see what it will cost to get your head ported. Its hard to make good power out of the 2.3L with a stock head. If I remember correctly your limited to about 150-160hp with the stock head.
