Why so many 2005 -2006 GT’s available at Carmax? Most of them have less then 15k miles. There are only a few V6 available nationally.

Here is the link: http://www.carmax.com/dyn/search/se...0&locnum=7197&pr1=1&pr2=13&es=T&esx=0&zd=&m=3

(Arrange the cars by years to see the list)

You got me, some of the local dealers are loaded with used 05 Mustangs GTs, many with manual trannies. They are asking insane amounts of $$ for them, ($29K+) and they have been sitting on the dealer lots for 3 - 5 months.

I've been wondering if they are repros or what?

Lease Returns - that would be my best guess

They might also be Ford Corporate cars driven by key employees that have been returned as part of FORD's "belt tightening"

Take a look at autotrader.com.

I did a search on used 2005 - 2006 Mustangs located anywhere. It came back with 11,009 listings.

11,000 sounds like a lot but when you consider that Ford has sold over 250,000 - 05 & 06 Mustangs, 11,000 of them is only 4% of the number sold.

I'd guess that at least 10% of all vehicles purchased & leased are resold every year.

Lots of GT's

A lot of the GT's have 6 -7k miles or less. Are people getting rid of them after a few thousand miles? Has anyone out there after driving a GT for several thousand miles found out that the mustang is not practical to drive? I don't understand!!!!!!

I think most places are asking way too much for their used Mustangs is why you see them alot. I was checking out carmax a month ago and ended up just ordering a new 07 Mustang GT for less than they were selling their used ones for.

Several of the Ford dealers around me have a bunch of 05 GTs, but they've had those same GTs for going on 6 months because they are asking too much $$. Like you I don't understand it, I can order a new 07 GT for less than what these dealers are asking for used 05 GTs (same model same options). I can only conclude that these dealers are trolling for suckers as they are advertising them as "Rare Mustang GT - Hard to find manual transmission" etc.

But the original question remains, where are all these low mileage (5K - 10K) used 05 Mustang GTs coming from?

V6's

There should be a lot more V6's on the lots then GT's. Why?

Hmmm, I plugged the VIN from one of the 05 GTs sitting on a local delar's lot into CARFAX. It came back with 20 records. I'm not subscribed to CARFAX so I don't know what those records are, but 20 records is a lot for a car with less than 10K miles. I'd guess that it's been back to the dealer a bunch of times and was a lemon law buy back.

I checked some of the other VINs and they all had 3 - 10 records. If someone here subscribes to CARFAX it might be interesting to see what those records are.

I'd be interested in those records too. I've been wondering the same thing about how many records are on these barely used GTs.

Thanks, for the offer jchennav:

Here are some VINs. I'm not looking to buy any of these, if I was I'd get my own CARFAX subscription.

But as we've been discussing, we're curious to find out where all these low mileage used 05 GTs are coming from.

Here are some VINs pulled from local dealer used car advertisements:

05 GT, 5,196 miles, 1ZVFT82H955124018
CARFAX shows 20 records on it!

05 GT, 3 records, the ad doesn't list the mileage: 1ZVFT82H455204987

05 GT, 9,037 miles, 4 records: 1ZVFT82H455196969

05 GT, 6,210 mile, 3 records: 1ZVFT82H255151139

05 GT, only 3,294 miles, 6 records: 1ZVFT82H855205415

05 GT, 10,100 miles, 4 records: 1ZVFT82H355226074

05 GT, 7,952 miles, 4 records: 1ZVHT82H655218138

IMO I think that a lot of ppl who have purchased stangs thinking these would be cool "luxury" cars an realized after a while that the ride is too hard and trade up for somethin with a lil more bounce. Then there are those who just have to have a new car every year an trade up.

You're probably right about the Stangs that have 3 or 4 CARFAX records, someone bought it and decided that's not what they wanted or needed and got rid of it.

I almost bought a used 2004 Mach 1 that had 3,000 miles on it. It was a trade in at the Ford dealer who orginally sold it. Some guy bought it w/o telling his wife. She ripped him a new one and he traded it in 3 months later for an Explorer.

But the cars that have 6, 10 or 20 records have to more to the story than that. They have to be lemons, flood damaged, crash damaged or salvaged cars.

All the cars shown here qualify for the Carfax buyback guarantee. No problems were found. No accidents reported.

If the car has more than one owner listed, it is very likely that one person may have owned the car for less than a month.

05 GT, 5,196 miles, 1ZVFT82H955124018
2 owners, 1st owner 20 days, 2nd owner 10 months, sold three times at dealer auctions. Silver with red interior might not be a desireable color combination.

05 GT, 3 records, the ad doesn't list the mileage: 1ZVFT82H455204987
8956 miles, 1 owner, 9 month lease.

05 GT, 9,037 miles, 4 records: 1ZVFT82H455196969
13 months, 1 owner.

05 GT, 6,210 mile, 3 records: 1ZVFT82H255151139
1 owner, 15 months.

05 GT, only 3,294 miles, 6 records: 1ZVFT82H855205415
2 owners, 1st owner personal 4 months, 2nd owner lease 6 days.

05 GT, 10,100 miles, 4 records: 1ZVFT82H355226074
corporate fleet lease, 8 months.

05 GT, 7,952 miles, 4 records: 1ZVHT82H655218138
corporate fleet lease, 9 months.
