I couldnt find the answer using the search function, but is it required to remove the seats and pull up the carpets on an '03 Mustang GT to perform a Subframe connector install? I've had SFC's welded onto both of my other mustangs (Fox 92 & 93) by well know installers and they didn't have to do this. I found a good welding shop since my usual installers are too swamped, and this new guy says it is required to do all this so that the car doesnt catch on fire. I dont know if he is familiar with mustangs, but I know he is experienced in welding SFC's. I am trying to figure out if this is really necessary, as I need to get the job done, and this guy is the only one available that I would allow to do it. Also, he is asking $350 for the job which is the main reason I am procrastinating taking it to him, as my other contact does it for $150. But again, he is too swamped at the moment. Thanks a lot in advance.

It's always a risk you face if you don't. Your usual installers probably don't run one continuous bead and cool it between each weld, whereas the other guys may.

i have never heard of anyone pulling the carpet. you are welding to the subframes, not the thin floor pans of the car

i had a welder at a muffler shop weld them in for 75$

I've never heared of that happening It's almost kinda rediculous to tell a customer that. And that Is way too expensive for just a SFC install. When I had mine done, I had some other stuff done at the same time and it was just a little more for everything I had done thatn what that guy is charging you. I'd wait for my usual guy.

RUN!!! that guy is trying to rip you off. i paid under $100 for mine to be welded on

I think I paid $110 with tax to install my full length subframes...anything for than $150 and I would have been pretty upset! Be patient and setup an appointment with the new guy for a week or month down the road, and save yourself the money. Honestly $350 to install SFCs is outrageous.

The shop that did SFC's on my buddy's Terminator just wet down the carpet a little to be on the safe side , I would either wait for the other dude doing it for $150 or start looking around.

Thanks for that link Kornnut. That is quite alarming. Quoted from the poster of that thread, it was welded "directly on the vertical portion of the rear floor board. It had been dyno matted..." Whatever dyno matting is, perhaps that what may have caused it?? It makes me very nervous now to get my SFC's done now that I read that posting.

1000's of people leave the carpet in with no worries. Some pull the carpet for piece of mind. That is the only time I have seen that happen while being on mustang boards(almost 10 years). Pulling the carpet won't take long. Its 4 bolts in each seat, I think 6 in the center console, and two tabs to push in under the rear seat. When I get mine put on in the spring I will pull my carpet for peice of mind.

Well, got them done today, from regular installer without lifting carpet or removing seats. Saved money and time, and nothing burned. Thanks for the replies.

its atypical to have a problem, glad you did get it done. You feel the difference? I sure did when I got them done!

95.0Stang, to be honest, I cant really say I noticed any differance with the SFC's, but thats because I've only had it for about 300 miles and I have been driving like a granny since I bought it. But I know one thing, and that is that these cars are much more sturdy then the fox mustangs, as both my '92 and '93 had a noticeable difference after the SFC install regardless of how I drove it before the install on both of them.
