I am going to kick off my interior refresh with new carpet.

I was looking on latemodelrestoration.com and noticed they had 2 different styles. standard and w/Mass Back.

Has anyone gotten the Mass Back? Is it worth it and why?

Should I replace the lower pad as well when I change out the carpet?

Is Late Model Restoration the best/cheapest place to get these parts?

Thanks,

Keith

I can only speak from personal experience but I bought the ACC in opel gray with standard back from latemodel resto and was severely dissappointed in the fitment. I understand that is a cut to fit affair however the carpet simply wasnt wide enought no matter how much I worked with it. Not 5.0restos problem as they dont manufacture it. Only time I've ever been dissappointed with a product from them. If you have factory carpet (mine was missing) I say try and get that cleaned first instead of ordering new. Not to mention it is a JOB to put it in.

Thanks for the info. That is exactly the kind of information I am looking for. My carpet is looking a little worn and stained. I could get it cleaned and it may look ok, but I was thinking of going with a darker color for the carpet. It is a light grey color now and I want to go with a dark grey.

Does anyone know where to get a carpet that will fit right?

Thanks,

Keith

I got the carpet from LMR with the mass back and have been real happy with it. yeh you have to cut the holes for the seat bolts and trans shifter, big whoop. took me, by myself, little over an hour from having everything out to ready to bolt the center console in, but that was in my vert and its cake with the top back. while you have it out give the floor pan a once over with some kind of rust inhibitor.

yeah..installing it is pretty straight forward. it took me and a friend about an hour to install it and cut all the necessary pieces out in my 87 lx

I use the ACC carpet in my shop, you have to cut all the holes but its not bad.

Never had a width problem, I like to lay the carpet out for 24-48 hours prior to install, otherwise a steamer does wonders.

You can have your old carpet redyed. I would highly recommend it. Especially if u are going with the same color.

Carpet is fairly cheep, 180 -190 range with mass back from both CJ and LMR and I would bet that one will have a sale over labor day weekend, why do all the work of pulling the interior out to redye the old carpet if your freshing up the interior, especially if the carpet is very worn or matted. you'll have a bunch tied up in dye that you could have used to buy new carpet.

I agree you might as well replace it. Your gonna want mass back, the quality is very very nice. I got mine for 140 from LMRS. Also another bonus, it helps get a "New Car" scent

Well my last stang had carpet so I took it out, beat all the sand and dust out of it, resolve carpet cleaned it. Then paid 40 bux to have it redyed and it came out banging. Wish I had a pic. Best part was it fit right back where it came from. Again, I'm speaking from personal experience. Others have had better luck it seems.

I put new carpett in my 89. Pretty straightforward, just make sure you cut alll the holes right haha, I made the hole that is at the back of the center console and e brake a little to big but was able to cover most of it up so wasn't to bad
