From what I gather..its a 87 truck engineering casting but wasn't poured until January 26 1989.
And can anyone make out what that 8 digit VIN reads?(it's the code from the plate at the back of engine on driver's side).

Looks like last 5 digits are 75021

What heads did you pull off the motor? E7s? Or e6s?

I would not put a dime into e7 heads given that GT40 heads are plentiful and cheap

E7s
So am I reading the codes correct?
..its a 87 truck engineering casting but wasn't poured until January 26 1989. And this is carbureted and sitting in my 82.

And i didn't want to drop a lot of money in this engine but this is the only route I have at the moment.. A engine upgrade is planned for the near future though.

Don't bother go to the JY and pull a 5.0 out of an Explorer.
Rebuild said engine, most of them are still in good condition and need minor repair.

Use the long block from the Explorer and the rest from your engine.

Then rejoice

I'd wager it's a 1989 5.0 HO if it has e7s and you confirm the sparknplug firing order is the 351 order

Might have to get a Dart block but don't want to and if I do, then 363 instead of 331. Thoughts on what I've already bought so far.......
