i recently purchased a book on rebuilding small block fords and in the begining chapters it goes over casting codes and a reference table decoding the numbers and letters for the block itself. i went to look at mine and came up with third position as the "car line" and it says its from the thunderbird line. does this mean the block is out of a t-bird? there is no evidence of the motor being removed from car and all the other castings match up as the mustang line. let me know what you guys think.

a lot of casting numbers go with the first model it was used on...... so yes a t-bird designation wouldnt be way out there

srjs28: You must have the "F1SE" block? That number is USELESS for figuring out originality. What you want to look for is the flat pad on the top-rear of the block, right behind where the lower intake would bolt down. The last eight characters (model year, assembly plant, and consecutive unit number) of the VIN are stamped there. The engineering number designates what the part was originally engineered for. All F1SE means is that it is a part originally engineered for the 1991 model year, (F1) the Thunderbird model line (S) and the engineering department within Ford responsible for its design (E) in Engine Engineering. Ford shares parts among many model lines and models. Not every part in a Mustang has an engineering number with that model line's designator (Z).

thanks foxchasis, that is exactly what i have. i see the characters your talking about, i just have to clean them up a little in order to read them clearly. and notch, i have a 93 gt, and seeing that every other casting number had a "z" which is mustang line in it i was concerned that somewhere along the lines that my blocked was swapped out for whatever reason. didnt mean to leave you in the dark, i guess i wasnt very clear. thanks for the responses
Hey whats up guys ? I'm new to the engine decoding system and I was wondering if someone can help. My code on bottom of my "302" block is D2(ZERO)E-6 (ZERO)16-AB and then right under that is 3E11. I spelled out the zero so it's not confusing so it's

1972 engineering number. Listed for Torino but not limited to be used in that model. It was just used first in a Torino.
3E11 is the date code. This block was made in:
3 = 1973
E = may
11 = day

Thank you I'm glad I didn't get thrown under the bus for my question I'm just trying to find everything I need for the motor so at least the more information I have on the motor, the more cross compatible parts I should be able to find
