So I've been debating on doing something and wanted to know if anyone has done this before, if so do you have any videos so I can hear what it sounds like? I have the Borla cat-back system which I absolutely love, but I'm thinking I may want it to be a little louder (it's pretty quiet atm) anyways, I'm thinking about havin an exhaust shop here cut out the cats on my h-pipe. Any input on doing this? Does anyone know if it's actually going to function pretty much like an xpipe after this? Any input/advice is appreciated.

Well, it wont function like an x-pipe, but it would function as an off-road h-pipe. Make sure you DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR CATS and you keep them, and make sure that the exhasut shop uses 2 1/2" piping, and EXPAND IT to go OVER your stock piping, if they use smaller size and weld it inside of your old/stock pipe it will cause a HUGE restriction and will be VERY bad. With that said, as long as they are charging you $100 OR LESS (as a new o/r x-pipe is $160) and you get to keep your cats and they use EXPANDED 2 1/2" pipe, you will be happy with the sound. HOWEVER, YOU WILL GET A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT UNTIL U GET A TUNE FOR AN OFFROAD H/X-PIPE! I hope this helped!!

Thanks for the tips, I will make sure they use the expanded piping, and they quoted me $100. I have the DiabloSport Predator so I can turn the cat sensors off with that.. I think my big question was is there really any difference between the "off-road h-pipe" and an x-pipe? I mean obviously different shapes, but do they sound different? is there any pros/cons to either? I basically don't want to drop $100 to doing this if an x-pipe is just a way better way to go, I would just do that instead.

As I have mentioned this several times before. Be careful what you wish for! I was in a similar situation as you but I installed an O/R H-Pipe and I found out how much LOUDER it got. It got VERY LOUD and VERY RASPY (makes a trumpeting sound when in variable cam timing) and I was not happy. I had to end-up spending some more time and money and I purchased some resonators and welded them in. I LOVE the sound now, but be warned if you cut out the CATS and aren't happy with the sound, you're only option is to get them re-installed and spend more money. If you decided this is the route you want to go (going catless), I would spend the extra money and get an O/R H or X Pipe. That way if you don't like how it sounds, you can always re-install the factory H-Pipe. BTW, the difference in sound from H to X is:

H = More or a deep sound
X = More of a raspy sound

Personally, I don't like how an X sounds, but that's my opinion. Hope this helps.

I have an 05 Gt. It has long tube headers, off road h pipe, mac exhaust with no cats. I can say I have had no problems with raspy noise. It is however obnoxiously loud. I love the sound but it definately is not for a daily driver. If this is your main means of transportation I would not reccommend it. The other problem with cutting the cats out is you burn up the 02 sensor. If you do this definately go to your local shop and get a custom tune. Hope this helps

You can't turn off the 02 sensor with the diablo. You have get an email or dyno tune to turn it off. The X vs H debate goes on. H is deeper but the X with stingers also have a deep tone. Generally H is recommended for chambered mufflers such as flows and macs and X is for straight through like stingers and magnapacks. With stingers you can't go wrong with either an x or h.

That's funny because it gives you that option on the tuner.

Did you download the latest firmware form diablo? I know the latest one you can't turn off the 02 but maybe with the previous version you can.

If you're prepared to spend $100 to have them cut up your factory mid-pipe, replace it for not that much more. It's about an hour to swap it out yourself with pretty basic tools, I have the FRPP stingers (Borlas) with a O/R prochamber and it sounds great. That way if you ever have to change it back, you can without a lot of hassle.

Sounds great to me. I noticed that you have some traction issues though.
