I need to replace the catalytic converters on my 1986 Mustang.

Would this be the correct replacement unit I need Ebay Link

And do I need to add this little tubing back in place - to pass emissions test. I assume I do. Do I just make a small hole in each cat and weld this back in place.

wonder how much it would cost to ship you a pair

Two different types of Cats, being in Cali you need to find the rules in your county that are specific to exhaust modifications concerning Cats.

The SMOG guy I went to said if you’re replacing cats they need to be CARB legal, not just ‘emissions’ legal. He also recommended a SMOG shop buy and put them in so everything is logged and correct (didn’t have a salesy undertone to it).

Due to the uncertainty I ponied up for the CARB legal Magnaflow xpipe.

Being in Cali, you are going to either find a stock H-pipe that somebody has, or pony up for this

That’s the one I have. Does come with a 5 year emissions warranty.

I’m curious how my oil burning issue is affecting it though.

Oil burning is not good for Cats, and it likely will not pass emissions anyway.

I did just have the car pass smog like a month ago. I just changed the plug right before. Runs ‘fine’ with a fresh plug in it.

If I had to pass Cali. Emissions I would put stock h pipe with cats for inspection then remove it till next inspection.

Thank you for that information - - I didn't know there were different types of converters
