hey everybody, i have kind of a newbie question, how many cats does a 94 GT have? I bought my stang off a friend and he put an off road H pipe and doesnt remember how many cats it had. I called 2 Muffler shops and they both said i need 4; i look online (auozone, summit, 50resto) and it shows only 2. I used to have an 88 GT(had 4 cats) so i was going to assume it needed 4, but at the shop i work at, theres a 94 GT With only 2 cats. Maybe my brains farting, idk, thanks everybody.

Stock was four. I don't think I've ever seen an aftermarket H or X that had any more than two.

There used to be a company that had aftermarket 4 cat H's.

Just find out what you need to pass the sniffer's visual inspection before you purchase.

I've legally passed CA smog with only two cats. If you're asked, just tell the truth: you bought the car without cats, so you had to buy an aftermarket replacement midpipe. If the shop keeps giving you a hard time, just go somewhere else. Most shops aren't that picky on the visual. The one I go to in West LA just checks if you have cats, not how many.

Apparently my ex-husband made that mistake.

It will pass with two converters. The guy who does the emissions test isn't going to have any idea how many cats a 94' Mustang came with, so don't worry about it.

Thanks everybody, I found this dude in Norwalk who said that 2 should be fine unless the car is really running like ****, not a problem in this case. Now i can spend with confidence
