Anyone know or have a catco h-pipe with high flow cats? I found a cheap used one on craigslist but not sure if its worth it. Also Idont see any o2 sensor holes on the pipe?
I dont have one but I would say dont bother with it. The pipes are 2.25- so its bascially the same as stock. Im pretty sure they do have 02 sensor holes. I thought about gettting one but instead got a magnaflow x-pipe with cats. The magnaflow was more expensive but well worth it. You can always go with bbk or mac, etc. Probably even find something else on craigslist too. Only thing I regret now is, I registered my car where my parents live and they are in a county where you only have to smog your car when you sell it(instead of every two years), so now Im ready for an o/r mid pipe.
I'm not sure what mods you have or maybe you dont yet, but I'd say keep in mind eventually you will want more hp, want to add bolt-ons, and or add a supercharger, or a stroker motor- so you will evenutally want at least a 2.5 mid pipe. You might as well get a good one
I don't know if they are the company that makes the H-pipe, but I know Catco is a company that sells universal converters. Are you sure they aren't welded into a pipe?
Anyways, I had two high-flow Catco's welded into a 97 Cobra I was trying to sell. I wanted to quiet it down because most thought is was too loud. The car sounded great with them. It ran good too...13.90's with nothing but a 3.73 gear.
FWIW, I've seen the Catco H's listed in both 2.25" and 2.5". I believe Summit Racing carries both.
But, as stated, if you're going to spend the dough on an aftermarket cat'ed mid-pipe, you may as well go with an X-pipe. Stay away from brands that don't use a transmission crossmember hanger of any kind, though, such as UPR or Pypes. I bought a UPR cat'ed X-pipe and not only did they have the cats welded an inch or two too far forward (had to cut a notch outta my crossmember just to get it to bolt up), but the stupid thing kept sagging where it connects to the flow tubes (pipes ahead of the muffs) because there wasn't a tranny hanger to support it. Had to keep jacking the thing up and re-tightening everything every 2 weeks. Got sick of it, threw on a Jeg's off-road X-pipe, and only kept the UPR X around for smog testing purposes (at least it's quick n' easy to bolt up, it just sucks to keep it on there). If you're only using it for smog-testing, though, the hangerless design X-pipes are actually kinda handy.
Then again, some people just like the sound of an H-pipe over an X-pipe, depending on what you use for muffs behind it, so go with whatever suits your ears best.
I picked up a 2 1/4" Catco pipe for my '92 a few years back. It served the purpose but I can't say I'd recommend it. It did come with provisions for o2 sensors but overall the quality of the pipe isn't the greatest (get what you pay for I suppose). Since my car is bone stock I wasn't really concerned with going bigger. I needed something quick for the smog test and I got the Catco pipe very cheap. Plus I also had an off-road X waiting to go back on the second I left the smog station. I eventually left the Catco pipe in place since the quiet ride was kind of nice. I pulled it when one of the cats went bad (developed a rattle inside one of the cats) after just over 1 year.
i had one a few years back also, but i just used it to get through inspections.... if your looking for any sort of performance exhaust you would be wasting your money.. its simply a stock side h-pipe with 2 cats... and it does have the smog tube and bungs for the o2 sensors...
