I just switched back to my catted BBK shorty h yesterday to pass inspections. I knew it wasn't going to sound as good...but it feels like I have more power. It was cooler yesterday because of storms so I figured that might have been it but today it's extremely hot and it still feels good. Is it simply restored torque? or is catted better than off road in some set-ups like mine? tell me what you think because I'm debating whether I want louder or faster (or maybe it's just the torque...)

I think you shouldn't feel that much diff between cat or catless except the smell from behind the car and the sound

lol I passed just fine but I live in TX...I know other states like CA are a bigger pain to pass. The guy honked the horn, drove it for 1 min, said something about my headlights being blacked out and that was it...didn't look under the car so I switched for nothing.

since you have more backpressure with cats, you have a little more lowend torque, which is probably what you noticed.

with less backpressure the powerband moves up in the rpm range slightly. putting the cats back on give you a bit more low end oomph...your car didnt really get much faster or slower either way, its all in the SOTP feeling

That all makes a lot of sense. I'm gona switch back to the off road pipe tomorrow. I'd rather keep the off road pipe if the power dif. is the same...I'll miss being able to hear my stereo but I didn't get a mustang for that reason...Thanks for the input!
