Got a scenario i wanted to run by you guys. Just relocated to Georgia and the county we live in has emissions testing. My 95 has bbk longtubes and a catless x-pipe currently. Can i just swap in the catted x-pipe or will i need the smog pump and everything else tlo to get it to work right?

You'll need the smog pump to (at minimum) keep enough air in the catalyst to make it operate and burn. All the other smog equipment may or may not be necessary for you to pass the sniff check.

In my area they usually only check with the sniffer if the check engine light is on. also in my area you only have to do emissions on 96 and later cars may want to look into your states requirements.

The smog pump is only needed for cold start cat light-off. It doesn't cool the cats. If you can get the cats good and hot as you drive in, and have them test soon after, you might be okay.

Thanks guys. I'll try it without the pump first and see how it goes. It would suck since I bought the car in Indiana this way and I'd have to re-buy all of the parts to get the air back to the cats. My county requires it for any car that's over 3 years old on a yearly basis in order to get your plates. They have these little emissions centers at gas stations, and service centers all over so I doubt they do much of a visual inspection. I'll try and get them nice and hot before i go and hope for the best. I'll report back once I get it taken care of.

When we had smog testing here in Florida I'd run the off road pipe for 364 days and the catted pipe for the 1 day I needed it smog tested.

I live in Cherokee County Ga, and we have emissions. If you live near by and need to borrow my home built H-pipe to get through emissions let me know. I pass with flying colors every year with just this h-pipe, no smog pump, and no egr. There is an emissions guy up the street who is real cool and has helped me get other cars through emissions before too. I also have bbk longtubes.

Kurt that would be awesome. I really wasnt wanting to spend $380 on an x-pipe if i didn't need to.

Oh ok. I know you can do emissions in cherokee and it transfers to Cobb County. Probably Gwinnett county too, but you might want to double check. Not sure how soon you want to do it?

Id like to move to another state in a few years and am in the same kind of boat. I like Kurts idea Ive just heard so much stuff regarding being able to pass or not w/ out smog stuff. How much does the cam come into play even with that modded H pipe? I'm also looking into Collectable car insurance, cars with that insurance are exempt in AZ and that could be a good option as well. I already have a different type of coverage on the car b/c It is not driven a lot.

Thats good to know. I'm working on getting insurance on it that classifies it as collectors insurance and if it all works out I'll be exempt anyway.
