CC Plate Install

I tried putting my caster camber plates on today and I could not for the life of me get the large, center nut that is on top of the shock off. The whole thing just kept turning with the nut. I'm going to put some PB blaster on it and let it sit overnight, but I don't think it's going to help out enough to get it off. Any ideas other than using an impact wrench of some sort?

Is the strut shaft turning when you turn the nut? Mine did. I tried vise grips .... you name it.


Since I'm replacing the plates AND struts .... I just removed the plate bolts and dropped the strut without removing that center nut.

Are you replacing struts? If so, you can do this, too. I still have to take it off eventually, though, so I can get the dust boot off of there.

Mine had two flat spots at the top of the strut (above the nut) for a cresent wrench. I held it with a wrench to brake the nut loose then by the time the nut gets to the wrench the wrench is not needed any more and the nut will come off by hand. The vise grip method works reall really well if you are not reusing your struts.

i had the same issue it was because the actuall shaft kept turning .if you have or know someone with a air compresor it zips right off without turning the shaft.

I figured an air compressor was going to be the easiest solution. I think I'm just going to take it to my friendly neighborhood Ford and see if they will be willing to just loosen it up for me. Once they break it free I know I will be able to do it myself. As far as new struts, I've been planning on going with Bilsteins so I guess now might be as good a time as any to do them. Anyone know of a place that can get them to me pretty fast and cheap?

I got the Dremel out and cut the old nut off...
wasn't pretty but it worked...
new struts came with hardware
just a thought if you get in a jam...

That's weird. I just used that EXACT method a few hours ago, lol.

Yeah, an impact gun should do the trick as most will recommend that route, but if your not reuseing the struts then just get mean with it.

i used an impact and it spun right off

I had to take them to the muffler shop and had them cut the nuts off.(haha) I also took them off as a whole and then took it apart for the dust boot.
