I have some questions for CDC "Shaker" owners . . .

1) How easy is it to install?

2) Do you have to change anything else (e.g. reflash computer) for increased airflow?

3) Does it add HP to an otherwise stock GT (I don't care if it only adds a few hp and at higher speeds; it would just be nice to claim something other than "bling")

4) Any issues to be aware of on a daily-driven car (e.g. water getting into system)?

5) Overall, is it worth the $795?

Thanks!

I like mine, it has a few maintenence issues though, you have to make sure the screws that hold the trim piece are tight. Other than that, it is great. I really didnt notice any performance from it, but it looks cool as hell.
Everybody says to get the mach 1 hood, but I like the CDC system just fine.
I will try to post some pictures tonight when I get home from work.

It isnt that bad of an install, if you get past the cutting of a perfectly good hood.

bottom line IMO money well spent

I love mine, I'm just jealous the 05 and the F-150 got a custom hood option OR just a trim ring for the shaker. The applique looks mean, but I'm always worried about it.

HOWEVER, I found a way to make the Ford Mach 1 hood fit. Seen a guy at a car show, you need some washers to raise the ball studs up, and then just the rubber drain ring from the mach kit. In the end the CDC kit IS cheaper than the Karkraft kit, unless you can find a Mach hood that is pre painted for under 40 bucks. Ford wants over 500 skins unpainted for the mach hood.

As far as worth the price? Performance wise... of course not, looks wise? Damn striaght!

Take my opinion with a grain of salt, I am not employed by CDC, but they do sponsor my car.

I think it looks pretty damn cool but I doubt I would ever spend the money on it...

Are you sure that all you need to do, to use the Mach 1 hood, is to raise the shaker up with some washers? I thought the CDC shaker was also not centered with the hole in the Mach 1 hood?

Anyway, you are right. I found a pre-painted, pre-striped, Mach 1 hood and thus went with the KarKraft kit.

I really want one. Yeah, there's probably not much if any performance gained, but I get so tired of my stock GT hood scoop. It TRULY does nothing except hold water and spit it out a few miles down the road...

So, I've been thinking about a new hood, but a new hood is what $400-$500 plus paint, which could be $100-$200 or more, so a new hood is maybe at the least $500 up to $700 or more. Well, with this kit (I could be wrong), but there's nothing more to buy or have painted, unless you want the trim piece painted body color. So, for a little more money than most aftermarket hoods you get a kickass functional hood...

I'll take one...

It sits a little different, but it fits. The car I saw it on, it actually looks cooler than the Mach scoop. You have to buy the rubber trim ring or whatever the drain seal is called and slip it over the CDC shaker, then washers to lift the ball studs a bit. I can't wait until I have the money to do it Ford wants almost 200 skins for that rubber trim. But I am getting a carbon fiber hood for around 400 bucks, not gonna paint it at first. Eventually will paint it to match the car, but leave a carbon fiber "stripe" on the buldge.

Closer.... While you dont HAVE to paint the applique, I would highly reccomend it unless the car is a garage queen. I got mine gloss black for 60 bucks. I orig. had it flat black, but that was more expensive and so hard to maintain (wax screws up flat). I'd suggest a low gloss black or go body color for a few bucks more. Either way unless you can find a pre-painted Mach hood for under 400 bucks, the CDC kit is a bargain. Just dont over-torque the applique nuts or the ball studs.

Thanks for the advice.

If I do it (probably more like when I do it) I'll have it painted body color. I've got a friend that's a painter. Does real good work. He filled in the holes from my spoiler, and Ford emblem... I was kinda thinking about going with some black vinyl stripes to either side of the applique, and taking them on back across the whole car... not sure though...

Poser? Please explain? So every one with a non-stock appearance GT is a poser in your highly esteemed opinion?

FYI the shaker on the CDC kit is a direct replacement for a 69 Mach, where as the 03/04 Mach kit IS NOT. It sits different and looks different. AND My car is fake scoop free. But then again I guess according to you my bullitt side scoops are poserish too.

Poser? Poser as what?

There have been shaker kits out for Mustang GT's, long, long before the '03 Mach came out. Matter of fact, the prototype blue Mach 1 shown at that auto show, used the CDC kit.

Calm down, chittlins. It's my opinion. You don't have to agree with me, nor I with you. Reason I don't like it, is because it makes the GT seem like it's trying to wear its big brother's shoes (Mach). It is the same thing as a v6 posing as a GT with badging, wheels, or exhaust.

I just don't like things pretending to be things they aren't. If it works for you, great. Me, if I wanted a shaker, I would have bought a Mach 1. But then again for a 4-valve, I would have just put the extra $ down for Cobra.

Bottom line is that it would be better money spent elsewhere down the line (forced induction).

Does that answer your question, guys?

Yes, power wise the money could have bought a 3rd of a S/C. HOWEVER, no where on my car or most peoples with the shaker kits does it say Mach. Big difference. Especially since the shaker IS functional. Yes v-6s with GT badging, or GTs with Cobra bading IS poser. HOWEVER, a shaker hood is not. Thats not an opinion, its a fact. The fact is, my plates clearly state the car is a GT. The shaker works (just a true cold air induction, I dont believe in Ram Air.. but thats another thread) and thats all there is to it. I also have the power to back up the shaker, so little ricers who can't read wont be going around claiming to have beat a Mach. Everything is clearly stated that its a GT. Thats the only thing that pissed me off...

Also as was said before there were shaker kits for Foxes, and 99-02 cars BEFORE the Mach came out.

"Yes v-6s with GT badging, or GTs with Cobra bading IS poser."

What about a Mach 1 with a rear bumper that says "Cobra" on it. Is that poser? Someone on this site did that to their Mach and it looked completely idiotic.
