From someone who owns a Mach, the scoop is barely functional, but does "pressurize" the box with cold air. If there is a ram-air effect, it would be above 120mph...

If the look you want is just for the shaker, it also barely shakes. Only when you stab at the throttle will you notice any movement, and to see any "shaking" at idle, one would have to get up close and personal with the scoop.

I bought the car for the name and for the exclusivity (is that a word?) of having a Mach 1.

Now, if you want the cold air affect, and couldn't care about having the shaker (the aplique looks like crap compared to the Mach hood after comparing both), the current 5.0 Resto catalog has a kit to make your stock GT scoop functional. Hood scoop kit

I'm not trying to start a war, as I do like the shaker, but to spend 1k-1500 dollars on that "little" visual mod isn't worth it in MY opinion.

I would agree. The damn shaker still looks really cool, though.

I also hated the Mach 1 guys looking at my car at the track like I was trying to fool people.

I appreciate the other 'details' you offer regarding the asthetics of the shaker scoop. It was a thought, primarily, to go this route because I gotta get my hood painted anyway. Cost versus practicality, it seems, is gonna keep me from this mod.

The Kar Kraft shaker is the only way to go in my opinion. I got the system for my 2000 GT and it rocks! I also got the chin spoiler, smoked headlamps, and grill delete. (That's why I've been dubbed "'Mock' One" by my buddies.) The Kar Kraft system only took an hour to install, and you can't beat Ford parts. I'm expecting to get some ribbing from the Mach 1 owners at the first cruise night this spring, but I still have the best looking GT in the bunch!
Also- maybe the DOHC cars idle and rev more smoothly 'cause my shaker really does some shakin'! The first time my wife (who had no idea what a shaker scoop really is) was in my car after the install she said, "Wow! It really moves!" CDC has great stuff, but everyone seems impressed by the KarKraft system. Hopes this helps anyone who's still on the fence. Sorry I don't have any pix; my digital camera is broken.

Just be careful to know that there are two different versions of the CDC shaker kit. There is the original one, and there is the post-Mach 1 version. Basically, CDC folded back into their own kit, the mods Ford engineers did as an upgrade the original CDC design.

Actually, I like the KarKraft kit better because it uses the OEM Mach 1 hood instead of the CDC "applique".

I had looked into that option myself, but KarKraft discontinued that Ram Air kit which uses the stock GT scoop, a long time ago. At least on this website, 50resto.com appears to still have some in stock.

However, if asthetics is your motivation, I'm not going to argue with that either. As a low cost suggestion, and if you are looking for a different look, take the scoop off, deliver it to a Ford body/paint shop and have them paint it flat/matte black...cost, probably less than $100. Reattach with some unique badging/lettering on the sides of the scoop. I recently took my stock spoiler/wing off and had it painted flat black. Cost me $112.00. Added a more aggressive and impressive look to the car. Whatever your decision, good luck with it.

I m planning on having my hood painted like the picture attach ( photoshop job ) plus aluminium grille inside hood scoop and mach one grille delete kit.

Most poeple have asked told me it would look cool, what do you guys think?
Purpose is only esthetic.

Sorry to be off topic, maybe i should have go to esthetic forum. feel free anyway to give me your impressions

I think it kick's butt I have a black GT and was going to do the same design, just in flat black. It'd be subtle, yet different. I was going to do the wing in flat black also to tie it in. You go with chrome Bullitts all around and that car will look even better! Just my $.02

$175 don't seem to bad. Post pics when you finally get it done. BTW, how much of a drop you runnin'? What did ya use? I'd like a little lower in the front than I already have.

Same spings as you DarkHorse . It s a photoshop effect. wanted to see if a bit more drop would look cool
But you re right, i can take a bit more drop so since i need new tires i ll go with 255\45\17 cause they are 3/8" taller than stock so it will fill the gap a bit more.
What do you think?

It works for me! gotta love photoshop I thought about cutting a section of my front springs down to get it a bit lower. Maybe when I finally get around to installing my Bullitt front rotors/calipers I'll tinker with the springs.

I've got one of the original CDC kits, and was wondering the same thing about the new plenums. As soon as the KK kit came out I wished I had waited, but now I'm stuck with what I've got. As far as shaker scoops go, I had the Banshee shaker kit on my 91 LX before the 2003 Mach 1 was a glimmer in Fords eye - so I think it's funny if a Mach 1 owner thinks I'm copying him! I will not put any Mach 1 badging on my car, or ever pretend that it is anything other than a dressed up GT.

I got it because it looks awsome in my opinion, and I couldn't afford a real Mach 1. If you're the kind of person that prefers every mod to enhance performance, that's fine - don't buy one, just understand that not everyone has the same goals for their car that you do.

I haven't pulled the shaker off to check, but I was curious if a section could be cut out of the shaker base where it would hit the new plenum, and then placed back by gluing some plastic to the sides of the piece to raise it up out of the way. The only thing it would do is shrink the volume of the air chamber slightly. I just can't remember what is in that area of the shaker base.

On a final note, when I bought a K&N filter and removed the stock one there was a dark dirty section on the paper filter corresponding exactly to the shape of the shaker inlet. This was after only around 1,000 miles of installing the shaker, so it is definately getting additional air to the airbox.

I know that the Banshee kit was first to come out, and they (Banshee) was actually looking at using my wife's car (2001 V6 at the time) to make the prototype of the V6 unit. Some things fell through, and they didn't use it. Mainly that they didn't want someone else engineering it (we lived in Pensacola at the time), and take all the credit.

As far as copying the Mach 1, if you all remember, it was the Mach 1 that had the functional shaker scoop first (at least on a Mustang). I.e. the 1969 Mach 1 with either a 351 or a 428cj. I'm just happy they resurected the namesake, and didn't go the same route as GM by using a V6 model i.e.- Malibu, Monte Carlo, current Impalla.

well I was going to do that...then I saw the pre-production Mach1's looked that way and desided to go with this:

then Ford went and made the Mach1 look like mine... oh well...BTW I've since added a chin spoiler...
