BTW to the guy with the problem.. Did you ever fix the cracked PCV hose.. That can and will cause these codes.

Yes, that 6" hose cost $22 but at least it was in stock.

how many miles are on the car , if its around 80K or more you might want to put a plenum gasket ( o-ring ) on it , I had an explorer that did the same thing you are talking about for months and it was the O-rings on the upper plenum that I finally fixed it ......

As I said in the original Post almost 90K.

I'm on vacation for the next week driving the Expedition (left the GT in the garage) so I won't be able to do any more until next Saturday when I get home.

But please post the info on how to check the MAF with the multi-meter.

Thanks everyone.

normally if the MAF is bad you will get a code saying so , if you arent getting a code specific to the MAF then you just need to make sure its cleaned with some electronic contact cleaner ....both banks being lean 99 times out of 100 is a vacuum leak behind the MAF (PCV , or plenum O-ring ) top 2 suspects , are the most likely places , the reason it has to be one of those 2 more than likely is anything else like the intake gasket itself or bad O2 sensor would not be both sides at once .......the chances that both O2s would go bad at the same time is so unlikely that it would be the last thing I would try ......

Why do you think that both went bad at the same time? Explain yourself instead of just throwing the answer out there, please.

Must be, he must work at a Autozone or something because they always try to sell you crap without having a reason why that is whats wrong with your car

I hope I'm not jinxing things but we're back from vacation now and the SES light is gone and no codes are showing. Just before we left for vacation the SES light had gone away on it's own but the rpms were surging some at idle in gear. The car sat for 5 days and the surge was gone from the 1st time we drove it after getting back. I have put about 50-75 miles on it now and everything seams to be back to normal so I'm not sure what actually fix'd the problem. Replaced the fuel filter, cleaned the MAF, replaced the cracked PCV hose or some combination of the 3?
