Ok so I got a CEL and went to autozone to get the code pulled, and heres what I came up with:

P1443 Evaporative Emission Control System - Vacuum System - Purge Control Solenoid or Purge Control Valve fault.

The light goes on and off, but when its on its usually on for about a day or something. The car seems to be running fine when the light is on or off, but I want to get it fixed. What exactly could the problem be, and how will it effect the car?

all the evap system does is route gas fumes from the gas tank to the intake

emissions. your car should run fine (i don't think just the cel alone affects driveability)

you'll need two parts, 1 is the canister purge valve E6ZZ-9C915-A $44.23 and the thermistor probe F57Z-14A606-BA $15.15

we have plenty of both in stock if you can't find

Could be worth checking the fuel evap hose, if you have an an after market pumpkin cover then it's possible the hose have been damaged by it hoes cost $50.
But then my CEL light on but it was on all the time!

Part# E6ZZ-9C915-A :It's the small plastic valve on a vacuum hose directly behind the TB against the firewall

This fixed my code and it's been almost a year and no more 1443 code. Before you replace anything else, try that part first.

false info, this has nothing to do with drivability. the purge solenoid will have a color coated hose orange or green. just be sure to make sure to change with the correct part. It's only $40 bucks or so with tubing all it will do if you don't change it is throw a check engine light.

No its not false info, my 97 ran like crap with it bad. (as designed)

Your statement make no logical sense, if it was just a light only. No cars would have working emissions systems.........

I changed mine when I got back from the field, car runs great.................

Get your facts straight before you slam a Mechanic....................
