changing gear oil

Before you pull the rear cover, make sure you can get the fill plug out. All it takes is a 3/8 drive extention to remove it. I've had those plugs freeze up and a bitch to get out. Also, do yourself a favor and buy pump to get the oil back in. You can buy a pump that will fit into gear oil bottle. They aren't that expensive. I think I paid 7 or 8 bucks for mine. Pearl02.

i use royal purple 75/140 and no friction modifier since royal purple already has it. I know a lot of people use 75/90, but the shop i go to said they have seen some pre mature wear on rears using 75/90. Ive been using 75/140 and have no probs.

so i want to change my rear gear oil just don't know what to use? by that i mean do i need any special addictives or anything like that or can i use just straight oil?

My 2002 owner's manual says to use "Motorcraft SAE 75W-140 Synthetic Rear Axle Lubricant", and to fill it to "2.0L (4.25 pints)".

Royal Purple has the friction modifier in it already, but others like Motorcraft require 4 oz of Ford friction modifier.
