Changing Manual Transmission Fluid.

I have a '89 Im wondering the best way to jack the car up change the manual transmission fluid? I wonder what people have had the best luck with refilling it? get a fluid pump, remove the shifter(Not into that idea to much). And what fluid and how much? Again thanks for all the help on here you guys are awesome.

I jack the car up and put it on 4 jack stands so it is off the ground but level. The drain and fill plug are on the pass side, drain at the bottom, both take a 3/8" rachet or extension. Use a little permatex or liquid teflon to seal the plugs.

Most use a transfer pump (you can find them at any parts store), or yank the shifter like you mentioned. You want to fill it up so the fluid just comes out of the fill plug, or right below the fill plug.

Run regular ATF Dextron/Mercon III, it will take 3-4 quarts Just buy a gallon jug especially if you use the transfer pump since it will not suck all the way to the bottom. ;)

Trans fluid capacity is 2.8 quarts. Just buy 3 quarts.

Key is to keep car level. I put two stands under axle and t under k member. All you need is a 3/8 drive rachet and a fluid pump. Advance auto sells a nice one that screws to the top of the bottle. Easy to use.

You can do it through the shifter but it's a pita unless you are changing the shifter anyway.

When you put the plugs back in, a little rtv on the threads helps seal.

Use non synthetic aft.
