No need to clean the maf unless it is dirty and causing a code to be thrown
Why the heck will you reset the PCM? No changes have been made to the cars tune so it is completely pointless. Heck the car will run a tad rough at first until it cycles and relearns everything, which will prolly freak the kid out because he thinks he did something wrong.
1) copper plugs will perform better than the stock platinums.
2) A Dirty MAF will usually not throw a code. Oil accumulates on the wire and insulates it which in turn sends the wrong voltage to the eec throwing off the a/f reading resulting in less than optimium performance. I reccomend cleaning it a couple of times a year if you run an oiled filter.
3) reseting the PCM is not done because of changes to the tune. It is done to clear long term fuel trims, which if the MAF was dirty, are going to be off. Yes it will relearn, but it is common practice to clear the memory when making a corrective change.

I get my garble from these sources. Where do you get yours from?

However, I dont consider it a performance mod. He asked for tech advice on what mods to get for his car. Not what preventive maintenance will do for him.
