Cheapest place for the Typhoon Intake?

well, everyone that i have known that has had the typhoon said it has lots of casting flash in the runners. im not saying that it isnt a good intake, it is but why have to spend more money or time to have a manifold cleaned up when its brand new.....
personally i think edelbrocks and gt-40 manifolds are way overpriced, but you cannot beat the flow numbers and the price of the trickflow streetheat manifold.

The Typhoon will flow exactly the same as the Edelbrock Performer RPM. Mine was very clean and had no casting flash what so ever. I have heard of others who have had some. And, a friend of mine had a problem with his T-stat sealing, but he sent it back and was sent another one.
He bought his on ebay (as did I).
I only paid a little over 260 bucks delivered.
You should note though that it is a copy of the RPM intake so it is designed for upper RPM gains. Also, if you are putting it on stock heads you will lose alot of low rpm torque.

Well I am working on porting one right now for a customer and I can tell you it needs a lot of work to flow to it's potential or to even reach the quality of a out-of-the box Ebrock.
The ports are far from even or square and need a fair bit of work. The alum is very cheap and flakes off easily, I could almost port it with a 80grit sand roll. All the inj holes had rough sharp edges with casting flash, and the depth is very inconsistant.
I roughed in the ports for about 5 hours tonight, I'll finish them tomorrow then put the final finish on the ports with the sand rolls. When it is complete it should be fairly decent, however out of the box the quality has some things to be desired.
The E-brock is a very good castings and the ports are much more consistant and thicker.
I took some pics I'll post them tomorrow night.

No offence to any of you with more experience, but the typhoon will flow more than enough for 300rwhp out of the box without any cleanup. I have it with the combo in my sig and it pulls JUST as hard as it did with my Eddy RPM, higher numbers will make it more critical but for looks and dollar value with a mild combo like yours and mine you will be very very satified. I have to say it is the first thing complimented when my hood goes up

It's almost as if there are different degrees of quality out there where the Typhoon is considered. I've been around alot of porting and my intake was just no where near as bad as the one he's describing. But, it isn't the first time Ive heard them described that way either.
My ports were very square and the gasket surface very true.
I saw an intake at the Long Beach high Performance Swap Meet one day that had "Edelbrock" cast into it but it was obviously not a real Edelbrock manifold. I wonder if there are actualy Typhoon copies out there?

I'll post the pics tomorrow, the casting flash around the injectors holes is amazing, personally I would have taken care of that before it even made it to the car for fear of it breaking off.
I could not put this manifold on the sweet 331 I just built for this guy, with out some work. (331, 9.5:1, AFR 185s, FTI cam, etc)
When I hit the port flat with a grinding bit or sand roll it would never touch the entire surface, the ports are far from even or square on this one, it took some work just to clean them up and make them even. I will not be able to get the entire casting seam out of the ports with out major work, and it seems thin in spots so I would be afraid of breaking through or making the port to big. He also has the polished version, upper and lower.

My friend (Dan94GT) bought a typhoon intake about a year ago off ebay. He had to do a little work to clean up the runners, but everything else lined up. I guess their quality isn't consistent...

I've always heard pretty mixed reviews on the typhoon too, usually more bad than good. I also don't see the point in spending more money to clean up an intake right after you take it out of the box.
I would go with an actual Edelbrock, or the TFS intakes.

Rick a well built 331 is never going to be satified with the flow of the Typhoon without some clean up, especially if you put it together. but for us little guys with mild H/C/I 302/306 combo's sometimes you need to conserve where you can, and in this case I think it's safe too. I had to fork out good cash for the heads. cam, and a stout 306 so I needed to consider cost savings/looks factor where I could without sacraficing performance. In my case the car is just for fun not track so every last HP is not critical, but I think you'd be hard pressed to dyno my car with any other intake and post any significant gains in HP and or torque.

mine came in yesterday and looks great , I am going to look it over good before installing it though but so far im very impressed , the egr plate and TB look just as good too ....... IMO got mine for 280 , egr for 29 and tb for 124 ...brand new ......got a local parts store to price match ebay prices and free shipping , saved me alot ....
