cheapest way to coat headers?

Hey guys I have these long tube heddman headers. I think their pretty old but not used, they were modified to fit gt40p heads. Anyways I was told to get them ceramic coated. How much would that cost? I was told like 150 for the pair? How would do that kind of work, machine shop? exhaust shop? I read if their only coated on the outside tempature may acutally get higher. Would it be easier to use header wrap? What would you guys suggest for "protecting" headers, I really dont want to spend money, im broke going paycheck to paycheck, trying to get my heads on, it will cost 300 to get the heads on, but I want to finish the exhaust first so the heads will just drop in. 150 for coating headers is a big set back, what do you guys think?

Well, I know where your coming from but I say just save up and do it right the first time. I honestly dont know how much of a difference the heat will make, and ive heard header wrap works, but will ultimatly end up with your headers rusting pretty bad. So i say spend the 150 and just wait a little on the heads...

where did u get a qoute for 150, thats seems fairly cheap, i called jet hot, and they told me 275, to do my longtubes thats not counting having to ship them to jet hot either, so i said , maybe later. and only doing the outside will create more heat, ur best bet is just go get some 1400 degree paint, and coat them, just so they wont rust out,. IMHO, i dont think jethotting them is worth it on a street car. ur looking a atleast 300 dollars, plus the cost of the headrs, in ur case free, but still its a lot of money. also what i will be using on my headers is this por 20, heres the link, its especially for headrs from the people who make por15, and that s h i t is good so u know the 20 is prolly just as good.

Not sure where youg ot $150 from, but it will likely cost a lot more than that. They look good to me, just throw them on!

If you want ceramic coated ones the best thing to would be to buy a set already coated from the manufacturer.

I believe it comes in gray, black and silver. In my dealing with it if you prep the header right it really lasts. This is the paint that we have used on the 10" exhaust piping for some large diesel generators that we have set for water plants.

I got my bbk long tubes down for 205. And if you don't get something one them. The headers well cook your legs. I had to take them off and get them jet coated or I was going to start on fire..

I wasnet quoted, it was just a guess from someone, I would like to find a local place, im not shipping my headers out to anyone. Where can I get 1400 paint? That wont create more heat? And I read up on the header wrap and im not using it. How would I coat the inside of the headers? I coating the outside by myself worth it? My choices now are do it myself with one of those produts or say screw it, not sure if just doing the outside is worth it though.

do the outsides with the stuff i linked above, it will last and it will stop them from rusting out, and they will look good, if u leave what u have on their now, all the black paint thats on them will burn off in about ten minutes of running, soooo, they will look ****ty wit that rust color and surface, so just buy a pint of that 1400 degree stuff and u will be good to go. :SNSign:

Paint them man... later on, if you have more cash, buy some new headers that have ceramic coating If the headers are a little close to the body, shield the body with some metal to help reduce heat transfer to the floor boards.

I would try the por 15 high temp paint. Por 15 is good stuff.

My JBA Shorties cost about $150 to have Jet Hot coated. They are one of the only companies that I know of the will guarantee thier coating on used headers. They sandblast inside and out and use a special spray booth to get the coating inside the headers. It was well worth the money, as header temps are way down, hence alot less heat in the engine bay.

On my old Nova I used the eastwood stuff, it works well and if preped correctly will last a long time. I have read alot of good things about the Por 15, might be your best bet for the money. But I would save up for the JET Hot or sell the ones you have and look at thier prices for new coated headers from Jet Hot they sell several different brands.

I would keep running stock headers if it were up to me. I bought gt40p heads so I HAD to get new headers. I really wanted to go ahead and get long tubes, and I found this pair of headers, never used, modified for gt40p heads, for 100 bucks no joke. So I jumped on it, they fit perfect, but I wasent planning on coating them. Im trying to spend as little money as possible and with the deal I got finding new headers is not an option. Id love to get them jet got coated but its not an option for me.

You may want to consider investing in some spark plug boot protectors w/ those painted headers. I've installed a few painted sets in various vehicles and they get hot enough to burn spark plug boots and any wiring running closeby.

This is the cheapest place I've found that offers fiberglass woven style boot protectors(similar to other brands, but half the price).
