check engine light on

Mine does this same thing. well, sometimes its at 40 mph in 3rd, sometimes its 5th on the freeway, stays on for a couple seconds then goes away, happens every couple weeks. Didnt start until I put on the lightning bolt antenna, so I just figured it was that. I have a code checker at work, and I've got a procrastination issue, so someday I'll check it.

i dont want to erase it though. i want to know what it is.
it came on for a reason.

just not sure what the problem is, i don't want to find out its a problem that i shouldn't drive the car because it could cause more damage when its too late.

once i find out what the problem is, i'll clear the code.

i have the stock headers, stock midpipe, and welded in flowmasters to the stock catback.

the cars got 205,000 miles on it, so i think the 02 sensors could definitely use a replacing, which i planned on doing when i bought my new headers and mid pipe.

try cleaning the MAF its easy ,cheap and can solve a lot of probs, thats what fixed mine. do you have a haynes manual or a chilton it says in them how to use the paper clip method to find codes. any body with an older vehicle has to have one of those books unless you have money falling out your back side

I've not mentioned clearning the codes once. I was the one who wanted you to retrieve them (rather than guessing at what the code might be). So why would I want you to only clear them?

AGAIN, you can retrieve the codes with a paperclip or jumperwire. Re-read your repair manual and pull the codes.
