My check engine light comes on only when I accelerate. It goes off when I let up on the gas or just cruising. As soon as I step on the gas it goes on. Anyone have this same problem??

You really need to pull the codes to find out what is going on. Autozone will do it for you for free or you can pick up a scanner at Wal-Mart for about $20.00 they are very handy to have around.

I had this problem on my car several years back. It was the egr position sensor on top of the egr valve. (if your car is equipped with this) Over time the tip of the sensor wears from the constant contact with the egr valve. It wears just enough to knock it out of range and turn the light on and off as you described. Hope this helps out.

All you need is an analog multimeter and a piece of wire to check codes. You can use the multimeter for more than code scanning later on.

31 = EVP OR PFE circuit belowminimum voltage
63 = TP circuit below minimum voltage

EVP = EGR valve position...check connector, wiring, clean pintle tip.
TP = throttle position...check connector, wiring, possible dead spot in pot.

Hope this helps.

Just curious, What device/method did you use to run the codes? I used a OTC Scanner on my '93 beacuse I thought the TPS was bad and it pulled a lil different codes everytime I scaned.

I purchased a code reader from Walmart for $25.00. The brand name is Innova Model 3143. Hope this helps.
