check engine light

Check electrical connections to/from sensor. I am not sure if your sensor is the heated variety or not but just because the code comes back saying it's a particular O2 sensor does not automatically mean it is the sensor itself. After clearing codes, it takes a bit of time before the readiness signals are active and this is the reason it did not come back immediately as being faulty. Remember that the code you read is really saying the sensor circuit.

maybe you replaced the wrong one. Happens all the time at work. We'll end up replacing the wrong sensor and go... oops... then replace the other one and the light never came back on. Try the other sensor on the same bank.

I know that this is necro-posting but I just fixed a problem with the Check Engine Light by cleaning up the butterfly valve on the throttle body. This was tripping 2 codes on Autozones computer. I don't remember exactly what the numbers were, just remember it said Bank 2. Also, below were a few of the suggestions of what was wrong.

M.A.F sensor
Ignition Wires
O2 Sensor
Injector Leak
Clogged Injector
Ect...ect...ect

The problem was at idle the butterfly wasn't seating all the way causing a lean air/fuel mixture at idle. I took a can of carb cleaner and a toothbrush, cleaned it all out, reset the computer by disconnecting the negative cable on the battery and walaa...no more CEL. I am not saying that this will work in every case but it's a really easy fix if it does work.

This problem will only cause the CEL to trip while at idle like at a stop sign or light. If your light comes on while throttle is engaged it's most likely not the issue.

all you need is a piece of black electrical tape. put it over the light, problem solved!

What's up with Stang's and O2 sensors...I had that problem with my 96 Stang for the longest time before I sold it.

Did you have any exhaust work done before the light came on kgraham1?

For inspection, they put the computer on it and look for codes. If you have them then you don't get an inspection...at least where I live. Not to mention, after cleaning up the TB the computer had to adjust a lot. It barely ran on the adjusted setting. After a couple of seconds of it running it started running a lot better than before. Anyway, just thought I would throw that tip out there in case anyone else had the same problem.

same thing happend 2 me when i bought my car goin 4 my emissiosns test they said i had a misfire on piston 2 turned out @ the shop next day csm back on turned out i neded a new alternater...
