Check gas cap?

A few days ago I was riding in my car and the Check gas cap light comes on? I stoped shortly after and looked, it was fine, I took it off then screwed it back on, I still have the light on though. The next day my service engine soon light comes on...now this is getting agravating. Is this a common problem, are they related, any ideas?? I'm trying to locate someone with a scanner to see if I can pull codes.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, I mean obviously get it checked soon if you can, but I know of 3 stangs here in town who have had their service engine soon light on since 10,000 miles. The gas cap light weirded me out too, it went on two weeks ago, and went off on it's own the next day.

I've had mine stay on before. Something was wrong with the cap itself. I got a new one from Murray's, and all was well. I believe that code is related to the Evaporative Emissions Control system. Autozone scans codes for free, if there's one near you.

Just get a new cap--I failed an emissions test once for this....
