ok im going to be checking for codes on my 92 5.0 the wire way using the check engine light to check for codes. ive been looking at this site that was posted on here about doing that and i just want to confirm and make sure i do this right. here the site. http://www.mustangworks.com/articles/electronics/eec-iv_codes.html

ok it says to do both the KOEO and the KOER tests the car had to be fully warmed up to operating temp. so i guess rev the RPM's to 2000 rpm for 2 mins i think it said. and to do the tests the car has to be in neutral.

then locate the test connectors under the hood. (i do know where they are)

Signal Return

STO FP test

then hook a wire from the single pin connector to where the signal return is.

now my question. what is the best kind of wire to use. i have this jumper wire but i dont think it will work. its the kind that looks like a small batter jumper cables. very thin, and has the ends just like the battery jumper cables. so i dont think this will work. so whats best to use???

but someone that did this before and someone who knows how to do it. so all i pretty much do is this

For KOEO test

1. Warm the car up to normal temps.
2. hook the jumper wire from the single pin to the signal return
3. put the car in neutral and put on E-Brake
4. turn the key on but dont turn over the engine.
5. wait for the flashes and write them down

For KOER test

pretty much the same as the KOEO test but start the car instead.

anything i should know and or tips you can give me

in addition to using a jumper wire between the small connector and the big connector, you also have to run a wire from the positive terminal of the battery to one of the connectors in the big connector. I went to the local auto parts store and just bought some 10 gauge wire and soldered on a generic end on it that just plugs into the service port terminals. Then just count the blinks.

you sure about that? why would i need to hook up a wire to the possitive terminal on the battery??

im just gonna count flashes of the engine light. not hook up a voltmeter or a test light

like i said im NOT using the Voltmeter or test light. i am using the Flashes of the check engine light. so i would not have to have something hooked up to the positive terminal on the battery.
