Does anybody have one of the custom burned chips from Western Motorsports in Calgary? I looked on their website, wmsracing.com and they are using a chip i have never heard of before. They are pretty affordable but i was wondering if anybody has any experience with them?

skip the WMS stuff and get a hold of Matt at the Mustang Shop in Calgary

That is exactly who I always talk too. All of the mods I have are from Matt. I just heard of the WMS chips and thought I would inquire. I like the SCT and will probably go with it. i just can't het up to Calgary to get my car tuned at the shop.

Skip the chip till you can come down and have it dyno tuned.

Mail order guessing is a waste of time, especially on a modified car like yours.

I have dyno tested about a zillion "chips" from various venders, and the results are almost always garbage.

Real time on the dyno is the only way. There are certain exceptions, like my omni that runs pig rich stock, so any bafoon can lean it out 10% and you will pick up 20 hp, but I can getya another 12 rwhp on the dyno. Also like the 03 Cobra's that run rich above a certain rpm, but most guys use the wrong paramaters to lean it out, and engine damage will occur when you go outside those paramaters .... though in the short run, the power will be way up.

But a 96 GT with PI heads etc... I would toss that baby on a dyno with a wideband and GOOD tuner.

Not possible.

Mustang Shop also uses SCT, and tune on the dyno. Cant beat that with a mail order chip.

WOT is right, Modular Poerhouse dosnt just send out mail order chips, its a reflash.. the cpu still works as it should.. and they have easily the best gains i have seen, modularpowerhouse=4.6 kings

Say you have an engine.... ANY "street type" engine. Once a competant tuner tweeks the fueling and spark at each load point on a dyno (the only 2 paramaters there are), no one in the WORLD will get more power out of the tune-up.

AND NO mail order chip on the planet will make as much power as a well DYNO tuned chip for YOUR car, YOUR level of carbon build up in the chambers, YOUR altitude, YOUR gasoline, YOUR level of deterioration of your cats, YOUR ring seal, YOUR bore wear.... etc.

If you think your chip that was developed on someone elses car will make as much power as a custom dyno tuned one, you are smoking crack ;)

I definitely agree. A custom tune based on datalogging will be the safest and most effective. I guess a will have to wait until spring until i can get the car to Matt. I don't want to chance the drive from Medicine Hat in the winter. How much does a custom tune from Matt usually run? I know they charge about $110 an hour for dyno time but i don't know how long it would take to tune it. Any Ideas?

Canadastang, your SCT seems like it worked well for you eventhough it wasn't dyno tuned. Did you notice any issues?

You are 100% correct. But, in my case, there really was nowhere to get a Dyno tune unless I make the 10 hour drive to the closest tuner.[and I'm not sure how good they are] There was someone doing Dyno tunes not too far from here but anyone that I knew that went, was very unimpressed. My rationale, was that it would be better to get a great tuner to make me a chip from their car, with the same mods, than to get a bad tuner to make one using my car. If I lived in the city, and knew of a good reputable tuner, I never would have went the mail order route, but that was not the case.
