After almost 16 years, the glass finally gave way this winter while replacing the heater core. I used a small 60watt incandescant shop light to light the shadows behind my dash (through the winshield) when a large crack appeared out of nowhere. I guess there was a chip larger than I realized.
Anyways, last week I replaced the glass (insured) and for the first time, I could see clearly through the winshield. I had gotten used to it I guess, but the old winshield had been sandblasted over time.
Well, today on my way to work I had a rock thrown at my winshield from godknows where. It didnt seem huge, and the sound was one I've heard many times before. I look up to see where it came from and there was a friggen quarter sized chip/crack/spiderweb taken out of my winshield!
WTF!!!
Is the new glass being made today not of the quality of the oem stuff or what?
I'm getting it replaced again (for free, insured) this friday, but it takes a couple hours to get it done, so it's a pita.
Sorry, just had to vent a bit.
