After almost 16 years, the glass finally gave way this winter while replacing the heater core. I used a small 60watt incandescant shop light to light the shadows behind my dash (through the winshield) when a large crack appeared out of nowhere. I guess there was a chip larger than I realized.

Anyways, last week I replaced the glass (insured) and for the first time, I could see clearly through the winshield. I had gotten used to it I guess, but the old winshield had been sandblasted over time.

Well, today on my way to work I had a rock thrown at my winshield from godknows where. It didnt seem huge, and the sound was one I've heard many times before. I look up to see where it came from and there was a friggen quarter sized chip/crack/spiderweb taken out of my winshield! :bang:

WTF!!!

Is the new glass being made today not of the quality of the oem stuff or what?

I'm getting it replaced again (for free, insured) this friday, but it takes a couple hours to get it done, so it's a pita.

Sorry, just had to vent a bit.

Stang Dudes:

I remember reading of a problem with the angle or rake of the wind shield on the older mustangs. The rake of the glass allowed more damage of the glass from smaller particles at lower speeds. Notice the wind shield is near vertical compared to our competitor, does not help the aerodynamics of the vehicle.

I replaced my wind shield 2 years ago, it was perfect when new. Now it is pitted. Oh well life with a Ford !

See if you can't keep the one they are taking out, have it fixed by those crack and chip repair guys, and keep it on the side for emergencies or sumthin...seems wastedful to dump a brand new windshield when so many good mustangs are going around with pitted, scratched, water marked windshields. :D

I got into a small accident which pushed the fender into the windshield so I had it replaced... a while ago I did a hard launch and i got a really good bite and I heard a small noise and didnt think much of it... later on while washing my car I noticed my windshield had cracked 4" down from the drivers side horizontally...

stupid cheap aftermarket windows... GRR.

Sounds like you need a set of sub frame connectors. That's not from a crappy windshield, that's from a twisting chassis.

Ok, murphy's law. I just went over to my parents to start getting ready to put my car back on the road at the end of this month, after a long drawn out winter. Well, sure enough, I jump in my car, look up at the upper drivers side corner and.....Damn...looks like I'll be replacing the glass with the rest of you, now. :(
