Chipping paint on 06 GT???

CHIPPING PAINT ON 06 GT

I washed my black 06 last weekend and noticed a bunch(>20) very small white "chips" on the roof and hood. I thought it was something from outside air but woild not come off. i read the list of TSB posted here and thought possib;y the "acid rain" issue may have happened, but that looks like it was for 05 not 06. Anyone else noticed these tiny "chips" in their paint? I drive 20 miles a day on all paved roads. No rocks or debris and car garaged at night. let me know

Don't know what it is, but a cheap way to tell for sure is to claybar the car.

Claybar is like hardcore compounding for your car. You claybar and then wax the car right after. Claybarring basically takes off every single impurity in your paint so that you have a clean canvas to start over on. Basically what he is saying is that claybarring should take out those little white specs if they are not paint chips. If they are paint chips then it wont come out.

Yeah, you can find them at most car parts places. It's easy. Just follow the directions. And if you accidently drop it, throw it away. It will now have dirt in the clay and will scratch up your car.

Also, go ahead and do the whole car. Wash the car with Dawn to get the old wax off. Then use the claybar. It will take off any rail dust (from the transport train), hard rain, pollution, etc. Then give it a good waxing. (Iprefer Zaino. It's expensive, but well worth it)

You will be AMAZED how good it looks!

Thanks I'll try it. Looking closer I don't think it is chipped paint but something adhering to surface.

Be very careful when you are doing any abrasive work on your paint finish. The clear coat is very thin and without care you may rub right through it.

The key to claybaring is to ensure that you use the detailer lubricant liberally...even spray the stuff on the clay bar itself... Works wonders and claybar just enough so that the surface is smooth (use very little pressure with it)...then don't forget to re-wax your car.

What you are experiencing is more than likely "Industrial Fallout." I too have a black 06 GT and it is horrible. I took it to the dealership and they did a complete acid bath and clay bar treatment. It took all of that crap off. That was about 3 months ago, and while detailing my car this weekend, I noticed it is coming back . A clay bar will do the trick, but based on your reported mileage driving to work, it sounds like this is a dealer/warranty issue. They did it for me, and they should be able to do it for you. The treatment would have cost around $500.00 if it weren't covered under warranty . Trust me, when it is done that black will look like wet glass
