CHP oil pan/pickup, questions..

who makes your main support?

that pan says its designed for use with probe stuff, which is mainly what chp bases all their products on.

best thing i think would be to give them a call and ask.

hmm maybe just call still and let them know how thick it is, and if there is any notching/no notching, ect.

they should be able to give you an idea on if the pickup will work or not still.

i cant remember if i had a main support added onto mine or not.

it has all forged 4340 internals, including crank. so they didnt really seem to think it was necessary for me.

i just got my canton oil pan today, got it for 250 shipped with pickup, and a dipstick. looks like a nice oil pan.

make sure you get a pan with a screw in dipstick. i put a moroso on mine and the dipstick crushed between the oil pan and the block and doesnt come out. now i get to have a cut dipstick and a screw in one.

ouch, that sucks. was that with a stock dipstick?

the canton i bought came with a nice screw in dipstick. guess its a good thing based on that.

what do you mean cut/re-weld?

its supposed to be a direct bolt on pan. i dont see anything on mine that appears to need work.

yeah, for some reason i decided to try to use it, and it definatly doesnt work. my moroso pan came with a dipstick, but it wasnt bent for longtubes, tried to save time and learned a lesson

im just curious about this modifying canton pans. i sure the hell am not modifying mine, although i dont see anything questionable with it. it is a little deeper in the most shallow spot compared to the stock pan so hopefully its ok.

Canton Pan = DROP ON AND FORGET ABOUT IT

No reason you should have to modify one of there pans, I install a lot of these on customers motors along with my own stuff and never had any issues. I use the thick Fel-Pro 1 piece gasket, ARP bolts, a thin coating of RTV, a bead at the front and rear seals, NO STOCK SUPPORT rails and never had a leak.

Canton makes a S model pan that is made for use with main girdles, they are a little deeper in the center section and do not have the crank scapers to interfere with the girdle. That being said I have used DSS girdles succesfully in the regular pan with no issues at all.

The pan you pictured above from CHP is not the correct pan for your car, it is a front sump. You need the dual pan with a REAR sump. Usually in the $259, last time I remember seeing Mark the owver of Probe say they were out of stock on oil pans, you may want to check before you order. I know my supplier has Cantons in stock

The main support looks like a CAT, the CHP/Probe is similar but it fits better and is thicker. From what I remember Probe use to supply Canton there girdles but Canton copied it, changed it a little and started making it thereselves.

You will need to heat and bend the pick-up to get it to fit correctly around the girdle and get proper clearance for the pick-up to the bottom of the pan 3/8"-1/2".

The issue with the older Moroso pans are it doesn't step back from the rear of the motor so if you run a 5spd with a blowproof bell it is near impossible to get the lower bolts in. They did just release a pan to fix this... All Moroso standard pans are painted black, just some thing to flake off and rust.

I will say my custom Moroso Alum pan for external oil pump is very sweet, fits like a glove on my SVO block.

thanks rick, that is something i had in question.

i have a one piece gasket, and the notification i got with my pan said they dont seal well. ill just put a little rtv at the front and the back and keep this one then.

88SC GT, I tried the thin rubber gasket and it didn't work well, I tried the cork gasket and it worked but I am not a real big fan of them.

The rubber re-enforced gasket I use is PT#OS34508R
