How do you go about cleaning the IAB? I'm having cold start problems on my '88GT. First time I start it everyday, I have to stab the throttle to keep it running and then it idles on it's own again. How do you go about doing that?

Remove it and spray ithe insides down with throttle body cleaner.

I have a gallon bucket of immersion type carb cleaner with a basket in the bottom. Usually you disassemble a carb and dump the parts in the basket & let them soak. I am going to try it on my 89GT's IAB to see how well it works.

Disconnect teh battery. Unplug the connector going into the IAC/IAB. THere are two screws holding the IAC to the throttle body- un screw those. Take the IAC out and soak it in carb cleaner for an hour or so. Try to make it so the pintle moves freely. Q-tips help in tight areas. Let it air dry and put it all back together.

OK, time for my stupid Q...
My car does the same thing (stalls), is the IAB/IAC the thing that is screwed to the top of the throttle body?

The TPS is mounted on top of the TB. The IAC is the cylinder mounted to the side of the TB.

Thanks for the reply.
I'll stop and get some cleaner after work. That would be great if it fixed it.

Don't forget to pick up a new gasket while you're at it.

Here's a pic I had laying around, I circled the IAC and TPS.

Nice, glad it worked. One of my old 5.0's had something screwed up, aparently the computer didn't like the E303 cam and kept doing screwy things with the idle that I couldn't fix, so finally I just unplugged the IAC. It really sucked on cold mornings. Everyone at my apartment was complaining about me sitting there warming up my car (offroad H and flows). The IAC is your friend when it is working properly.
