cleaning the block of dried cork gasket

what is a good cleaning solution for dried cork gasket removal ... i am in the process of changing my oil pan gasket while motor is in car... i cleaned the oil pan with a wire brush drill bit but have no clue on cleaning the block while in car...any advice??? thanks in advance.

by hand with a sharp chisel or puddy knife...

I would us a straight raser and a skotch bright pad.

There is some spray stuff that also aids in softening gasket material up you can probably find at your local auto place.
