spray it down with a degreaser and let it sit for about 10 minutes then power wash it. after that, tire shine the entire thing and it'll look awesome!

For a low mileage, clean, but dusty engine, I use Meguirs quick detailer....that's all you need.

For a low mileage, neglected engine that has light soot, or caked dirt, I use Simple Green. It doesn't smell, and it's biodegratable.

For a high mileage, oil leaker, I use engine degreaser.

I hate engine degreaser though. It's not biodegradable, so it kills your lawn, it stains your driveway, and it smells like hell.

Yep, the last time I used Gunk on my entire engine I must not have rinsed it enough because I couldn't drive the car for nearly two days. I'll try Simple Green next time. My '92 is up for a cleaning but it never gets dirty as my '90 (rear main).

Or you rinsed it too much. It's not the cleaning product that made your car not start it's the water. Last couple times I took the hose to a 5.0L engine, they wouldn't start. I had to take compressed air, and blow off everything, the wires, the distributor cap etc....it still wouldn't start. I ended up spraying WD40 on the wires and it fired right up.

I used that Gunk ORANGE once. Man, my car smelled for 2 weeks! I rinsed the crap out of it but every time the engine got warm it would stink up. Whats worse is that it was fall and i had to turn the heat on in the AM and that smell would come right into the interior. I started dryheaving once in the car from it

Hands down best automotive product I have used as an enthusiast and professional detailer is the Greased lightning degreaser in a purple bottle. Can be had at very few wal marts but mostly at autozone. I use the stuff as a shampoo and it doesnt negatively affect carpet. Very degradable and will get almost any job done. Spray on, leave it for 5 and rinse well. I would also suggest using a high pressure washer as well, maybe at a car wash if you dont own one yourself.

No, the car started up fine. It was the lingering smell of the Gunk that I couldn't stand.

x2!!! Greased Lighting is awesome. I used that on Titanium Grey carpet that was hit....I mean HIT. Coffee, pop, gum, hair, grease stains....Greased Lighting made it look brand new. I went over it twice, and let it sit for the day to dry. It doens't have an overpowering smell either.

Ohhhhh....that's what you meant. Yeah, I agree....like I said with 5L5. The smell stays around forever...plus that stuff leaves oily look in your driveway.
