When building a convertable mustang on the ford website it says that a cloth top is an option however I cant find anywhere where it actually lets you add cloth to the build. Does anyone know what the upgrade charge is and has anyone heard any pros or cons on the cloth.

The cloth option is just a check box near the begining when you select top color or something. It's actually the "soft top boot" option, instead of the normal hard cover boot option.

The soft boot allows for more trunk space. Having witnessed new '07 convert's at the dealership and seeing their trunk space, it does the job nicely!

cloth top

I think it was a couple of hundred on the sticker. I have the vinyl the cloth looks sharper but i think the vinyl holds up longer and resist stains better.

I was thinking when they said "cloth top" they were referring to the actual material for the top itself not the boot. Example, the GT500's and other high-end convertibles like Ferrari, their tops are actually made out of cloth not canvas.

You are correct. It referrs to the material of the tpo itself. We had a Sebring JXi with the cloth top. It looked much better and seemed to insulate from road noise better than the vinyl tops on either of the Mustangs that I've had (95 GT & 96 Cobra). I've ordered the cloth top in black for my new GT.

The cloth looks nice but wears a little more than vinyl.
I don't know what Mr_Q is talking about, it appears he owns a coupe anyways....

I was confused. I thought he was talking about the boot, not the top.

What I am talking about is an option though. Ford offers a soft boot and a hard boot. The soft allows for more trunk space when the top is down.
