Hey im new to this forum but i am looking for some friendly advice. I have an 02 GT and a about a month ago a clunk noise started from my front end. It has continued to get worse. Its not a short clunk it occurs for about a half second while the front end is going up or down. The noise only occurs when i go down a driveway, when i apply my brakes hard enough for the front end to dip (especially at low speeds), and when i hit a crack in the road it will sometimes do it. When the clunk/noise occurs i can feel the vibration from it on my feet.

When i bounce on the hood of my car while it is parked the noise does not occur and when i am not moving and i turn the wheel from left to right the noise does not occur so i dont think it is from the steering components. I just replaced the front struts because i thought it might be those and i needed new ones anyway..(96K miles) and i have new wheel bearings.

i removed the tires and nothing seems to be loose and the sway bar mounts are not loose and the nut on the top of the strut tower is tight and torqued correctly. i have no signs of oil leaking anywhere in the front. the car does not vibrate while driving at high speeds. i have stock coil overs and my front end is all stock and the car has never been crashed. thank you all for your advice and time. mike

I am not sure but it could be engine mounts

But it seems like it would be more to do with suspension or wishbone related check the bushings ect.

good luck!

Hey nevermind that thread..i just read another forum on stangnet and it was one bolt on the k member that needed to be tightened about 1 turn and now the sound is completely gone. thanks stangnet.

Mike

For anyone else that has this problem and is not super familiar with mustangs, the bolt on the k member that was loose was the bolt on the tube that connects the left side of the car to the right side of the car. it attaches to both ends of the k member.

I have been hearing the same noise. After reading your post I got under my car and checked those bolts. I got over a full turn on both bolts, I hope that fixed the noise in mine too. Thanks for the good info.
